Interview Ka Pehla Question: "Tell Me About Yourself." Aur Tum Freeze Ho Jaate Ho.#

Yeh question simple lagta hai. Lekin yahi woh question hai jahan 80% candidates gadbad karte hain.

Kya hota hai usually:

  • Tum apna naam bolte ho, phir college, phir... silence
  • Ya phir tum 5 minute ka life story shuru kar dete ho
  • Ya phir tum ratta maara hua answer bolte ho jaise robot

Interviewer ke mann mein ek hi thought hota hai: "Yeh banda prepared nahi hai."

Is article mein main tumhe exact script dunga. Word-by-word. Freshers ke liye alag, experienced ke liye alag. Tum bas apni details fill karo aur practice karo. 2-3 baar bolo, aur interview mein naturally niklega.

Pehle Samjho: Interviewer Kya Sunna Chahta Hai?#

Jab interviewer bolta hai "Tell me about yourself," woh yeh NAHI pooch raha:

  • Tumhara poora biodata
  • Tumhare hobbies
  • Tumhare family details
  • 10th mein kitne marks aaye the

Woh yeh pooch raha hai:

  1. Tum kaun ho professionally? (Current status)
  2. Tumne kya kiya hai relevant? (Past experience/education)
  3. Tum yahan kyun ho? (Why this role/company)

Bas. 60-90 seconds. Zyada nahi.

The Formula: Present + Past + Future#

Yeh formula har self-introduction ke liye kaam karta hai:

Present: Main abhi kya kar raha hu (10-15 seconds) Past: Maine kya kiya hai jo relevant hai (30-40 seconds) Future: Main is role/company mein kyun interested hu (15-20 seconds)

Total: 60-90 seconds. Perfect length.

Script 1: B.Tech Fresher (No Experience)#

Template:

"Good morning/afternoon, sir/ma'am. My name is [NAAM]. I recently completed my B.Tech in [BRANCH] from [COLLEGE], [CITY], with a CGPA of [CGPA].

During my college, I focused on building practical skills in [TECHNOLOGY 1] and [TECHNOLOGY 2]. My final year project was [PROJECT NAME], where I [1-LINE PROJECT DESCRIPTION]. This project helped me understand [RELEVANT SKILL].

I also [EXTRA ACTIVITY: internship/hackathon/certification/club activity] which gave me hands-on experience in [RELEVANT SKILL].

I'm particularly excited about this [ROLE NAME] position because [SPECIFIC REASON ABOUT COMPANY/ROLE]. I believe my technical background and eagerness to learn make me a good fit for this opportunity."

Real Example (Fresher, B.Tech CS, applying at TCS Digital):

"Good morning, sir. My name is Rahul Sharma. I recently completed my B.Tech in Computer Science from VIT Vellore with a CGPA of 8.4.

During my college, I focused on web development and database management. My final year project was a Student Placement Portal where I built a full-stack application using React and Node.js. This project taught me how to handle real-world data and build user-friendly interfaces.

I also completed a 2-month internship at a Bangalore startup where I worked on their backend API using Java and Spring Boot. This gave me practical experience with production-level code and team collaboration.

I'm excited about the TCS Digital role because I've read about TCS's work on the BaNCS platform for banking clients. The scale of problems you solve here, serving millions of transactions, is exactly the kind of challenge I want to work on. I'm eager to learn and grow with TCS."

Time: ~70 seconds. Perfect.

Real Example (Fresher, B.Tech ECE, applying at Wipro):

"Good afternoon, ma'am. My name is Priya Patel. I completed my B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from KIIT Bhubaneswar this year with a CGPA of 7.8.

While my degree is in ECE, I developed a strong interest in software development during college. I completed certifications in Python and SQL from Coursera, and I built a project called Smart Attendance System using Python and OpenCV for face recognition. This project was selected for our college's innovation showcase.

I also participated in Smart India Hackathon 2025 where our team built a waste management solution and reached the national finals. This experience taught me how to work under pressure and collaborate with team members from different backgrounds.

I'm applying at Wipro because I see it as a great platform to transition into the IT industry with proper training and mentorship. The Wipro TalentNext program particularly interests me because structured learning is exactly what I need at this stage."

Script 2: MBA/Non-Tech Fresher#

Template:

"Good morning/afternoon. My name is [NAAM]. I recently completed my [DEGREE] from [COLLEGE] with a [PERCENTAGE/CGPA].

My interest in [FIELD] developed during [SPECIFIC INSTANCE: internship/project/course]. During my [INTERNSHIP/PROJECT], I worked on [SPECIFIC TASK] which taught me [RELEVANT SKILL].

I also have [ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE: part-time work/volunteering/leadership role] where I [SPECIFIC ACHIEVEMENT].

I'm drawn to this role at [COMPANY] because [SPECIFIC REASON]. My combination of [SKILL 1] and [SKILL 2] aligns well with what you're looking for."

Real Example (MBA Marketing, applying at HUL):

"Good morning. My name is Sneha Reddy. I completed my MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Pune with a CGPA of 8.1.

My interest in FMCG marketing started during my summer internship at ITC, where I worked on a rural distribution project for the Bingo brand in Andhra Pradesh. I helped map 150 retail points in 3 districts and analyzed purchase patterns. This taught me how distribution directly affects brand visibility in tier-3 markets.

I was also the Marketing Club president at Symbiosis, where I organized a brand strategy competition with participation from 30+ B-schools. Managing this event taught me project management and stakeholder communication.

I'm excited about HUL because of your deep rural distribution network and how you adapt global brands for Indian consumers. The assistant brand manager role aligns perfectly with my interest in understanding Indian consumer behavior."

Script 3: Experienced Professional (1-3 Years)#

Template:

"Hi, I'm [NAAM]. I'm currently working as a [CURRENT ROLE] at [CURRENT COMPANY] for the past [DURATION].

In my current role, I [TOP 2 RESPONSIBILITIES/ACHIEVEMENTS]. Before this, I [PREVIOUS RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IF ANY].

My key strengths are [SKILL 1] and [SKILL 2], which I've developed through [SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE].

I'm looking for this opportunity at [COMPANY] because [SPECIFIC REASON: growth, technology, scale, role]. I believe my experience in [RELEVANT AREA] can add value to your team."

Real Example (2 years experience, SDE applying at Flipkart):

"Hi, I'm Amit Kumar. I'm currently working as a Software Developer at Mindtree, Bangalore, for the past 2 years.

In my current role, I work on the backend services for a US healthcare client. I've built 3 microservices using Java and Spring Boot that handle 50,000 daily transactions. I also led the migration of our monolithic notification system to a microservices architecture, which reduced response times by 40%.

My key strengths are backend system design and performance optimization. Working on high-traffic systems at Mindtree has given me good exposure to distributed systems and database optimization.

I'm looking at Flipkart because I want to work on Indian consumer-facing products at scale. The technical challenges of handling Big Billion Days traffic, millions of concurrent users, dynamic pricing, inventory management, that's the kind of engineering I want to do. I think my experience with high-traffic backend systems aligns well with what your team needs."

Script 4: Career Switcher (Non-Tech to Tech)#

Template:

"Hello, I'm [NAAM]. I'm currently a [CURRENT ROLE] at [COMPANY] with [X] years of experience in [CURRENT FIELD].

Over the past [DURATION], I've been transitioning to [NEW FIELD] because [HONEST REASON]. I've completed [CERTIFICATIONS/COURSES] and built [PROJECTS] to develop my skills in [RELEVANT TECHNOLOGY].

My previous experience in [OLD FIELD] gives me a unique advantage in [SPECIFIC WAY]. For example, [CONCRETE EXAMPLE].

I'm applying for this role because [SPECIFIC REASON]. I bring both [OLD SKILL] and [NEW SKILL] to the table."

Real Example (Mechanical Engineer switching to Data Science):

"Hello, I'm Karthik Nair. I have 3 years of experience as a Design Engineer at Bosch, Bangalore, working on automotive components.

Over the past year, I've been transitioning to data science because I realized that the data analysis part of my engineering work, predicting component failures, analyzing test results, that's what I enjoy most. I completed the IITM BS Data Science program, earned a Google Data Analytics certificate, and built 4 projects including a predictive maintenance model for manufacturing equipment.

My engineering background gives me a unique edge: I understand manufacturing data deeply. My capstone project used vibration sensor data from CNC machines to predict tool wear with 92% accuracy. This isn't just theory for me, I've worked on actual shop floors.

I'm applying at [Company] because your team works on industrial analytics, which is exactly where my engineering domain knowledge and data science skills intersect."

Script 5: Career Gap Wala Introduction#

Career gap hona common hai. Isse chhupao mat. Address karo confidently.

Template:

"Hello, I'm [NAAM]. I have [X] years of experience in [FIELD], most recently at [LAST COMPANY] where I worked as [ROLE].

I took a [DURATION] break from work for [HONEST REASON: health, family, upskilling, personal reasons]. During this time, I [WHAT YOU DID: courses, freelancing, personal projects, volunteering].

I'm now fully ready to return to work. In the past [RECENT DURATION], I've updated my skills by [SPECIFIC UPSKILLING ACTION]. I'm targeting [TYPE OF ROLE] because [REASON].

I'm excited about this opportunity at [COMPANY] because [SPECIFIC REASON]."

Real Example:

"Hello, I'm Meera Joshi. I have 4 years of experience in frontend development, most recently at Zomato where I worked on the restaurant partner dashboard for 2 years.

I took a 1.5-year career break for personal health reasons. During this time, I focused on recovery but also kept my skills current by contributing to open-source projects on GitHub and completing an advanced React course from Frontend Masters.

I'm now fully ready to return to work. In the past 3 months, I've built 2 personal projects using Next.js and TypeScript to make sure my skills match current industry standards. I'm targeting senior frontend roles because I want to continue where I left off and grow.

I'm particularly interested in [Company] because your product serves millions of daily users, and building performant UIs at that scale is exactly what I love doing."

Common Mistakes (Jo Almost Sab Karte Hain)#

Mistake 1: Life Story Sunana

Bad: "My name is Rahul. I was born in Jaipur. I did my schooling from DPS Jaipur. In 10th I got 92%. Then I took science in 12th where I got 88%. Then I appeared for JEE but couldn't crack it. So I took admission in..."

Kisi ko tumhari 10th ki marks nahi sunni. Start from college or current role. 10th/12th ka mention mat karo unless interviewer specifically pooche.

Mistake 2: Generic Statements

Bad: "I am a hardworking and dedicated individual with good communication skills and a passion for learning."

Yeh har candidate bolta hai. Literally har ek. Interviewer ne yeh 500 baar sun liya hai. Instead, SHOW these qualities through specific examples.

Good: "During my internship, I was given a task that normally takes 2 weeks. I completed it in 5 days by automating the repetitive parts using Python scripts. My manager was impressed and gave me 2 additional projects."

Dekha? You just showed hardworking, initiative, and technical skills without using any of those generic words.

Mistake 3: Ratta Maara Hua Sound

Practice karo, but memorize mat karo word-by-word. Key points yaad rakho:

  • Present situation (1 line)
  • Past experience/education (2-3 lines)
  • Why this role (1-2 lines)

In points ko naturally bolo. Har baar thoda different niklega. That's good. That sounds real.

Tip: Record yourself 5 baar. Playback suno. Agar robot jaisa lag raha hai, toh points yaad karke bolo, exact words nahi.

Mistake 4: Hobbies Ka Mention (Bina Pooche)

"And in my free time I like to read books, play cricket, and watch movies."

Yeh "tell me about yourself" ka answer nahi hai. Yeh "what are your hobbies" ka answer hai. Jab tak interviewer hobbies na pooche, include mat karo. Time waste hai.

Mistake 5: Negative Baat Karna

Bad: "I left my previous company because the management was toxic and there was no growth."

Chahe sach ho, interview mein negative mat bolo previous company ke baare mein. Instead:

Good: "I'm looking for a role where I can take on more technical challenges and grow into a senior position, which is why this opportunity excites me."

Same message, positive framing.

Mistake 6: Bahut Chhota Answer

"My name is Rahul. I did B.Tech from VIT. I know Java. That's it."

10 seconds ka answer se interviewer ko lagta hai: prepared nahi hai, interested nahi hai, ya confidence nahi hai. Minimum 45 seconds, maximum 90 seconds.

Practice Karne Ka Sahi Tarika#

Step 1: Script Likho

Upar wale templates mein se apna wala choose karo. Apni details fill karo. Total 100-150 words hone chahiye.

Step 2: Timer Lagao

Phone ka timer on karo. Bolo. 60-90 seconds mein aana chahiye. Agar zyada hai, cut karo. Agar kam hai, ek aur point add karo.

Step 3: Mirror Ke Saamne Bolo

5 baar. Eye contact practice karo (apni aankhon ko mirror mein dekho). Body language dekho: straight posture, hands visible, slight smile.

Step 4: Record Karo

Phone se video record karo. Playback dekho. Check karo:

  • Kya natural lag raha hai?
  • Kya speed theek hai? (Na bahut fast, na bahut slow)
  • Kya filler words aa rahe hain? ("umm", "like", "basically")
  • Kya eye contact hai?

Step 5: Kisi Ko Sunao

Friend, sibling, parent. Unse feedback lo. Agar unhe boring laga, toh interviewer ko bhi lagega.

Step 6: 3 Versions Ready Rakho

  • 30-second version: Sirf naam, current status, aur why this role (for quick rounds)
  • 60-second version: Standard template (for most interviews)
  • 90-second version: Detailed with extra achievement (for longer interview slots)

Language Tips (Hindi Medium Students Ke Liye)#

Agar tumhari English strong nahi hai:

  1. Simple sentences bolo. "I built a project using React" is better than trying to say "I conceptualized and architected a full-stack web application utilizing the React framework."

  2. Grammar perfect nahi hai? Chalega. Interviewers care about content more than grammar. A few mistakes are fine. Confidence matters more.

  3. Practice English mein hi karo. Even if you think in Hindi, practice the introduction in English because interviews are conducted in English.

  4. Slow bolo. Nervous hone pe speed badh jaati hai. Deliberately slow bolo. Pauses are okay. Pauses are better than filler words.

  5. Hindi medium college ka mention mat karo. It's irrelevant. Your skills and projects matter, not which medium your school was.

Ready-Made Starters (Copy-Paste, Fill the Blanks)#

Fresher (Engineering): "Good [morning/afternoon]. I'm [Name], a recent [Branch] graduate from [College] with [CGPA]. During college, I focused on [Skill 1] and [Skill 2]. My major project was [Name], where I [did what]. I'm excited about this role because [reason]."

Fresher (Non-Engineering): "Good [morning/afternoon]. I'm [Name]. I completed my [Degree] from [College] in [Year]. My interest in [Field] started when [specific moment]. During my [internship/project], I [achievement]. I'm applying here because [reason]."

Experienced (1-5 years): "Hi, I'm [Name]. I've been working as [Role] at [Company] for [Duration]. I primarily work on [main responsibility]. My key achievement has been [specific metric]. I'm exploring this role because [reason]."

Career Switcher: "Hello, I'm [Name]. I have [X] years in [Old Field] at [Company]. I'm transitioning to [New Field] because [reason]. I've prepared by [courses/projects]. My background in [Old Field] helps because [how]."

Bonus: Follow-Up Questions Ke Liye Bhi Ready Raho#

Introduction ke baad yeh questions aa sakte hain:

  1. "Tell me more about your project." (2-3 minute detailed explanation ready rakho)
  2. "Why are you leaving your current company?" (Positive framing: "seeking growth" not "bad management")
  3. "What are your strengths?" (2 strengths with examples)
  4. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" (Role-related growth, not "I want to be a manager")

Har question ke liye template chahiye? JobRise ka Answer Polish tool try karo. Apna rough answer daalo, aur polished, interview-ready version lo, 30 seconds mein.

Ab script likho. Practice karo. Aur interview mein confidently bolo. Pehla impression hi last impression hota hai."
