Top Companies Hiring for Design Jobs in Toronto (Oct 2026)

JobRise Team6 min read

You've got a portfolio and a LinkedIn alert set, and you still can't tell which Toronto employers are actually hiring designers this month. Here's the picture as of 14 October 2026, straight from JobRise's live jobs feed: 11 open design jobs in Toronto, all 11 posted in the last 30 days, and 5 of them in the last 7 days. Fresh listings, small pool, which changes how you should play it.

One honest note before the rankings. These are counts of open listings on one feed, not a market survey, and some of the names below are recruiters or staffing firms posting on behalf of clients. Treat it as a dated snapshot you act on this week, not as gospel about the Toronto design market.

Who's hiring, ranked by open listings#

Okta leads with 4 open listings. Ubisoft has 2. Then five employers sit at one each: Aviso Wealth, AlgaeCal, Lyft, Stripe, and Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada. That's seven employers total for 11 roles.

The job types split almost entirely one way: 10 full-time, 1 contract. So if you're holding out for contract work, there's exactly one door open here and you'd need to find which listing it is by reading each posting. Every title in this slice is senior or above. Zero of the 11 look entry-level, no intern, graduate, junior, or trainee titles in the batch.

No listing shows a salary. That's normal for Canadian design postings but it means you walk into screening calls without a number on the table, and you should ask early instead of guessing.

How Toronto compares with the whole country#

Toronto holds 11 of the 72 Design jobs listings open across Canada right now, so roughly one in seven Canadian design postings is in this city. For context on the wider market, the JobRise Hiring Report: Canada tracks country-level numbers worth a look before you decide whether to search nationally.

Also worth knowing: 318 listings are open in Toronto across all categories. Design is a thin slice of a big local market, which tells you the city hires plenty, just not many designers at once.

Targeting each employer type#

Okta and Stripe are enterprise product shops. Their titles say it all: "Principal Product Designer, UI Platform" and "Product Designer, Terminal". Both point at platform and systems work, so lead with design systems, component libraries, and the boring infrastructure that keeps a product consistent across dozens of teams. If your portfolio is all marketing sites, you're applying sideways.

Ubisoft is a games studio, and its two titles split across disciplines: "Team Lead Level Designer [Splinter Cell Remake]" and "Senior Cinematic Animator". Level design and cinematics are craft roles with very specific reels. A generalist product portfolio won't move here. Send level layouts, blockouts, or animation reels instead.

Lyft's "Senior Product Designer, Rider" is consumer mobile work, two-sided marketplace thinking. AlgaeCal's "Lead Graphic Designer" is likely brand and marketing output, so show campaigns, packaging, or email work rather than app flows.

Aviso Wealth posted "Superviseure ou superviseur bilingue, Nouveaux comptes, Temporaire", a bilingual supervisory title in financial services. Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada listed "Gestionnaire principal(e)/premièr(e) conseillèr(e), Minéraux critiques". Both are French-titled federal or financial roles, and bilingualism is part of the fit. If your French is workable but rusty, say so plainly instead of hiding it.

Referral and outreach scripts#

Cold applications into 11 open roles means heavy competition per seat. A referral changes the odds more than another portfolio revision does.

For a former colleague now at one of these employers:

"Hey Sam, hope the new gig's treating you well. I saw Okta's hiring a Principal Product Designer on UI Platform and I'm applying this week. Would you be comfortable passing my name to the hiring manager? Happy to send a two-line blurb you can forward as-is. No worries at all if it's not a fit right now."

For a stranger at the company, keep it shorter:

"Hi Priya, I'm a Toronto designer working on platform systems and I applied to the UI Platform role at Okta. Your post on design tokens last month matched the problems the role describes. If you have 10 minutes for a coffee chat this week I'd value the perspective, and I won't ask you to refer me cold."

For reaching a recruiter or staffing firm directly:

"Hi Jordan, I noticed you're representing design roles in Toronto right now. I'm a senior product designer with eight years in fintech and marketplace work, open to full-time. My portfolio is below, and if a client brief matches I'd appreciate being considered. Thanks for your time."

The 7-step plan#

  1. Rank the seven employers by fit, not by listing count. Okta's 4 roles mean more shots, but a mismatch is still a mismatch.
  2. Rewrite your top resume bullet for each employer's language. Platform words for Okta and Stripe, craft words for Ubisoft, consumer words for Lyft.
  3. Find one person at each employer on LinkedIn and send the short script above. Aim for two touches per employer, no more.
  4. Apply within 48 hours of a listing going up. Five of these 11 landed in the last week, so speed matters.
  5. Check each company's real hiring signals with the free company insights tool before the screening call, so you walk in knowing their stack and recent moves.
  6. Ask about salary in the first recruiter call. Nothing is posted in this slice, so you need their range before you invest three interviews.
  7. Track everything in a simple sheet: employer, role, contact, date applied, last touch. Revisit stale rows every Friday.

FAQ#

How many design jobs are open in Toronto right now?

11 open listings as of 14 October 2026 on JobRise's live feed, with 5 posted in the last 7 days. That's a snapshot of one feed, not a total market count.

Which Toronto employer has the most design openings?

Okta, with 4 open listings. Ubisoft follows with 2, and five other employers have 1 each.

Are there entry-level design jobs in this batch?

No. Zero of the 11 listings carry intern, junior, graduate, or trainee titles. Everything reads senior or above, so entry-level candidates should widen the search.

Do any of these listings show salary?

None of them do. Ask for the range in the first recruiter call and don't guess based on title alone.

Should I apply to the French-titled roles at Aviso Wealth and EDC?

Only if your French matches what the posting asks for. Both titles are in French, so bilingual ability is part of the fit, and it's better to state your real level up front.
