Entry-Level Finance Jobs in the US: How to Get Hired in 2026
You want a finance job in 2026 and your resume has almost nothing on it. That is the normal starting point, and it does not lock you out. It does mean you need to read the market correctly and show proof in places most applicants skip.
Here is what the market actually looks like right now.
What the listings show#
On the JobRise live jobs feed (jobrise.io), the finance category in the United States had 701 open listings on 14 October 2026. Of those, 483 went up in the last 30 days and 314 in the last 7 days. That is a snapshot of one feed on one day, not a market survey, so treat it as a reading of current supply rather than a promise about the whole country. You can browse the current set in the finance jobs hub.
Two numbers should shape your expectations. First, only 10 of the 701 listings carried entry-level looking titles such as intern, graduate, junior, or trainee. Second, only 15 of 701 listings showed pay at all. Employers here are mostly hiring for experience and mostly staying quiet on money.
The country picture is bigger. The JobRise Hiring Report for the United States lists 13,720 open listings across all categories, with 8,471 posted in the last 30 days. Finance is a slice of that, and it is not the easiest slice to enter.

Junior titles worth watching#
The 10 entry-level looking listings on 14 October 2026 give you real titles to search for. "Entry Level Financial Professional (Long Island)" at WealthBridge Financial Group is the most direct one. "Junior Inbound Compliance Analyst (KYC)" at Carta is a good example of a junior role in a payments company. "(New Grad) Account Development Representative II - Atlanta" and "(New Grad) Account Development Representative II - Phoenix" at Samsara show how some firms label their graduate tracks. "Jr. Commercial Contracts Counsel" at Bully Pulpit International is legal rather than finance, but it sits in the same slice.
Notice the pattern. Junior finance work often hides inside compliance, contracts, payroll, and revenue operations. Do not search only for "financial analyst." Search for analyst, operations, KYC, payroll, and accounts receivable too.
Where the openings are#
The companies with the most open finance listings on 14 October 2026 were WealthBridge Financial Group (194), Anthropic (44), Robinhood (22), Stripe (17), Dean Dorton (16), City Wide Facility Solutions (15), Brex (15), Okta (13), Datadog (12), and Fivetran (10). Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms, so a single entry can cover several client companies.
By city, the concentration is San Francisco (110), New York (74), Chicago (21), Denver (16), and Seattle (11). If you are in one of those metros, you are competing in a deeper pool but you also have more doors. If you are elsewhere, expect remote listings and staffing firms to carry more of your search.
Job type is not a real fork. Full-time is 691 of 701 listings, part-time is 8, and contract is 2. Almost everything is a permanent role, so plan for a full-time search.
What employers want proof of#
Titles get you read. Proof gets you interviews. For junior finance work, three kinds of proof matter.
Skill with numbers in a real tool. Excel at the level of pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH or XLOOKUP, and clean data cleanup. SQL for pulling your own data. Familiarity with an ERP or a billing system helps for accounting-adjacent roles.
A project you finished. A budget model for a club, a pricing analysis for a small business, a reconciliation you ran for a nonprofit, a dashboard you built for a class. Anything where you had a number, made a decision, and can show the file.
A credential that signals seriousness. For accounting paths, progress toward a CPA matters more than any course badge. For compliance and financial crime roles, ACAMS or a similar AML credential is well known. For analytics, a Google or Microsoft data certificate plus a real portfolio beats a stack of random badges.
A bullet that works with zero experience#
Most new grads write this:
"Responsible for data analysis and reporting for student organization."
Rewrite it like this:
"Built an Excel budget model tracking $18,000 in annual club revenue and spending across 6 categories, cut event costs 12% by comparing vendor quotes, and presented the variance report to a 20-member board each month."
The second version names the tool, the scale, the decision, and the audience. It is still honest. It just stopped being vague. If you want more rewrites like this, the resume builder walks you through it line by line.
The 7-step plan#
- Pick one lane. Corporate finance, accounting, compliance, or fintech operations. One lane, one resume, one story.
- Read 30 live listings in that lane this week. Copy the repeated requirements into a list and rank them by frequency.
- Close the top two gaps with a project. Two weeks each, with a file you can send.
- Rebuild your resume around those projects and tools. Lead with numbers, drop coursework that proves nothing.
- Set up saved searches on the finance jobs hub and on two staffing firms that cover your city. Apply within 48 hours of a posting.
- Write a short note to a human at each target company. Two sentences on the project, one on why their team, one clear ask for 15 minutes.
- Track everything in a spreadsheet. Applications, dates, contacts, follow-ups. Review every Friday and cut what is not working.
Run this for 8 weeks before you judge the results. Junior hiring is slow and lumpy, and a single month tells you very little.
How to read the pay data#
Only 15 of 701 listings showed pay on 14 October 2026, and every one of those was a senior or specialized role. For example, Ramp posted "Business Lead" at $160K to $275K with equity and "Director, Strategic Finance" at $280K to $385K with equity. Patreon posted "Director, Indirect Tax" at $232K to $348K with equity. Those numbers tell you nothing about entry-level pay.
For junior finance roles in the US, reported ranges vary widely by city and by function. Verify current figures against official sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics or your state's wage data before you negotiate. Do not anchor on a senior posting.

FAQ#
How long does it take to break into finance with no experience?
Plan on 2 to 6 months of active search if you have a degree and a project or two. Longer if you are switching fields entirely or are limited to one city. The pace depends more on your proof and your follow-up discipline than on the job market.
Do I need a finance degree to get these jobs?
Not always. Accounting, economics, statistics, and engineering degrees all land in finance roles, and some employers hire from unrelated majors if the candidate shows strong Excel, SQL, and a finished project. Roles that require a CPA or a Series license do have hard requirements you cannot skip.
Are internships the only way in?
No. The listings show full-time roles outnumber internships by a wide margin, and many junior hires come from adjacent jobs in operations, payroll, or customer support at finance companies. Getting inside the industry first and moving sideways is a real path.
Should I apply through staffing firms?
Yes, for junior roles. Several of the largest finance employers on the feed are recruiters or staffing firms, and they place candidates into roles that never get a public listing. Register with two or three that cover your city and keep your profile current.
What if the entry-level listings in my city are almost zero?
Then widen the geography and the title. Look at remote listings, adjacent metros, and roles titled analyst or operations rather than finance. Also consider starting in a non-finance role at a finance company, which is how a lot of internal moves begin.
