Finance Jobs for Freshers in India: 2026 Guide

JobRise Team7 min read

You have a commerce or finance degree, zero work experience, and every job post you open asks for two years of it. That is the normal starting position in India, and it is solvable, but the way in is narrower than college placement talks suggest.

Start with the numbers. On 14 October 2026, the JobRise live feed showed 82 open finance jobs in India. Of those, 47 were posted in the last 30 days, and 32 in the last 7 days, so the slice is active and worth checking weekly. Treat this as a dated snapshot of one job feed, not a market survey.

What the entry-level picture actually looks like#

Here is the blunt part. Only 1 of those 82 listings had an entry-level looking title, meaning intern, graduate, junior, trainee or similar. The example is "Junior Associate - (6 Months Contract Role) - Royapettah (Chennai)" at Rentokil Initial.

So roughly one in eighty roles is aimed at you directly. The rest ask for experience, sometimes in titles that hide the real seniority level.

But titles lie in both directions. "Accounts Executive (Accounts Receivable)" at Civica may accept a fresher with a solid accounting base. "Travel 2 Expense (Immediate Joiner)" at Bosch Group is transactional work that freshers can learn fast. Meanwhile "Plant Finance Controller" at Exponent Energy and "Financial Operations & Reporting Manager" at MODIFI GmbH want people who have already closed books and led teams.

Read the requirement line, not the title. If it says "0 to 2 years", "CA Inter", "MBA Finance 2025 or 2026 batch", or "article ship experience", you are in the running.

Example junior titles worth hunting#

The market does not use one label for entry-level finance work. Search each of these separately.

  • Accounts Executive, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable
  • Junior Associate, Trainee Accountant, Finance Trainee
  • MIS Executive, MIS Analyst, Reporting Analyst
  • Billing Executive, Invoice Processing Executive
  • Tax Associate, GST Executive, Compliance Executive
  • Payroll Executive, Expense Analyst
  • Audit Assistant, Internal Audit Trainee
  • Financial Analyst Trainee, Business Analyst (Finance)

Titles like "Global Payroll Analyst" at Fivetran or "Financial Model Auditor - Steer India" at Steer are stretch targets. Read them anyway. They teach you which tools and terms appear most often.

The skills employers here actually test#

For fresher-level finance roles in India, the shortlist is consistent.

  • Tally Prime or SAP FICO basics, plus Excel at a working level
  • Excel that goes beyond formatting: VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, pivot tables, SUMIFS
  • GST, TDS and basic filing workflows
  • Accounts receivable and payable cycles, including reconciliation
  • MIS reporting, meaning building a weekly or monthly sheet someone can trust
  • Written English for email, since most finance roles coordinate with US or Europe teams
  • Attention to detail, which in practice means your numbers tie out the first time

SQL and Power Query are not required everywhere, but they move you up the pile for analyst-type roles. Basic Python or VBA is a bonus, not a gate.

Proof beats claims on a fresher resume#

Saying "good knowledge of Excel" proves nothing. Everyone writes that. Show a deliverable instead.

Do a small self-built project this week. Reconcile a mock bank statement against a mock ledger. Build an ageing report for 30 fake invoices. Pull a public dataset and build a variance report. Keep the file, screenshot the output, and put it on a Google Drive link in your resume.

Certifications help, but only the ones employers recognise. Tally, GST practitioner courses, SAP FICO, NISM modules for markets roles, and CA Inter attempts all carry weight. Microsoft Excel certification is fine. A random six-hour online course with a fancy name is not.

A rewritten resume bullet#

Here is the fix for the most common weak line.

Before: "Good knowledge of accounting principles and Excel, hardworking, seeking a challenging role in finance."

After: "Reconciled 30 mock invoices against a sample ledger using Excel (XLOOKUP, pivot tables), identified 4 mismatches worth Rs 18,500, and produced a 2-page ageing summary; project file linked on resume."

Same person, same zero experience. The second version names the task, the tool, the scale, the result, and where to verify it. Write three or four bullets like that and your resume starts competing.

Where entry-level openings get posted#

Company career pages are the most reliable source for freshers, because campus and fresher drives are usually listed there first. Then come job boards, LinkedIn, and staffing firms, which handle a lot of contract and junior volume. In this snapshot, some of the busiest names in the finance slice were staffing or recruitment firms, including Rentokil Initial with 16 listings, so do not filter them out.

Geography matters. Bengaluru led with 35 of the 82 open listings, followed by Gurugram at 10, Mumbai at 7, Chennai at 5, and Pune at 4. If you are mobile, say so on your resume. "Open to relocate to Bengaluru or Gurugram" removes a real objection.

Full-time work dominates: 80 of 82 listings were full-time, and 2 were contract. Do not ignore the contract ones. Six-month contracts convert, and they beat six more months of nothing.

The 7-step plan#

  1. Pick a lane. Choose between accounting operations, financial analysis, or payroll and compliance. Your first role does not lock you in, but a scattered search does.

  2. Build one proof project per skill. Reconciliation in Excel, a GST working, a small MIS dashboard. Three projects, done properly, is enough.

  3. Rewrite your resume around tasks and outputs. Use a free resume builder to fix the layout fast, then edit the bullets yourself.

  4. List target companies and check their career pages weekly. Add the staffing firms, since they carry fresher volume.

  5. Track applications in a simple sheet: date, company, role title, source, follow-up date. Two hundred untracked applications teach you nothing.

  6. Prepare one story for the interview: how you found an error, and what you did about it. Freshers get asked this constantly.

  7. Follow up once, five working days after applying. Then move on. Do not chase.

For the wider picture across categories, the JobRise Hiring Report: India showed 1,867 open listings overall, with 1,345 posted in the last 30 days. Finance is a small slice of that, so keep adjacent searches open.

FAQ#

How many finance jobs for freshers were listed in India?

On 14 October 2026, JobRise showed 82 open finance listings in India, of which 1 had an entry-level looking title such as junior, intern, or trainee. That is a snapshot of one job feed on one day, not a market total.

Do I need an MBA or CA to get a finance job as a fresher?

No, but they open different doors. A B.Com or BBA graduate can land accounting operations, MIS, and payroll roles, while analysis and treasury roles lean toward CA Inter, MBA Finance, or CFA attempts.

Which skills should a fresher learn first?

Excel at a working level, Tally or SAP FICO basics, GST and TDS fundamentals, and clean written English. Add SQL and Power Query once the basics are solid, since they help for analyst roles.

Are contract roles worth taking as a fresher?

Yes, if the work is real and the brand is credible. In this snapshot, 2 of 82 finance listings were contract, and short contracts often convert or at least give you a searchable title for the next jump.

Why do so many finance job posts ask for experience?

Because finance errors cost money, and hiring managers want proof you will not make them. Projects, certifications, and a short stint anywhere in accounting operations are the usual substitutes for that proof.
