Software Jobs for Freshers in India: 2026 Guide
You have a degree, maybe a few online courses, and almost every "entry-level" posting asks for two years of experience. In India that gap is real, and it is not closing on its own. Here is what the current data actually shows, and what to do about it.
What the listings show right now#
On 14 October 2026, the JobRise live jobs feed carried 800 open software listings in India. Of those, 694 were posted in the last 30 days and 482 in the last 7 days, so the feed is moving fast. You can browse the full set on the software jobs hub.
Two numbers matter more than the total. Only 4 of those 800 listings carry titles that read as entry-level, things like intern, graduate, junior or trainee. And only 38 of the 800 listings show any salary at all. That is the market you are walking into: loud on requirements, quiet on pay, and thin on roles labelled for beginners.

Where the openings cluster#
Bengaluru dominates with 327 listings, then Pune (39), Gurugram (38) and Mumbai (30). Almost everything is full-time: 794 listings, against 6 contract roles. If you are job hunting from a smaller city, remote or relocation needs to be part of your plan early, not an afterthought.
The companies with the most open listings in this slice are Bosch Group (132), Okta (79), Google (53), HCL Technologies (45), Mongodb (38), Wipro (37), Incedo (20), Gitlab (19), Bitwarden (16) and Rentokil Initial (16). Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms on the listings, so read the posting body before assuming direct employment.
For the wider picture across all job categories, the JobRise Hiring Report for India shows 1,867 open listings, with 1,345 posted in the last 30 days. Software is a big slice of that, but it is not the whole market.
Titles that actually mean "junior"#
Do not search only for "fresher". Employers rarely use the word. Search by the work instead. Real titles on the feed include "Software Developer" at Newgen DigitalWorks, "Systems Engineer" at Datamark, Inc., and "HiL Test Engineer" at Bosch Group. There is also "Full Stack Software Developer with AI expertise, Pune" at Bosch Group, which is a good hint that AI-flavoured full stack work is being written into ordinary developer roles.
The four entry-level looking listings are worth naming, because they show the range: "Junior/Senior or Staff Software Engineer, Inference / Compute Infrastructure Engineering" at Togetherai, "2027 Entry-Level Software Developer, AI & Marketing Platforms" at IBM, "Jr Executive / Executive - IT Application Support" at Rentokil Initial, and "Walk-In Interview - Junior Business Operations (IT Application Support) Graduate" at Rentokil Initial. Notice the last two. Application support is a common back door into software teams for freshers.
What pay looks like when it is shown#
Only 38 of 800 listings post a salary, so treat any number as a sample, not a promise. As posted: "Embedded Software Developer" at Trigent Software Private Limited at ₹22.0-22.0 LPA, "Software Developer" at Kivi Capital at ₹15.0-22.0 LPA, "Software Developer" at hr footprints management services pvt ltd at ₹10.0-15.0 LPA, "Software developer" at Sagility at ₹4.5-5.5 LPA, "Software Developer" at Site4Placements at ₹0.1-4.8 LPA, and "Manager, Software development" at Freyr Energy Services Pvt Ltd at ₹14.0-22.0 LPA.
Read that spread honestly. Fresher offers in India commonly land somewhere in the ₹3 to ₹8 LPA band for service and support-adjacent roles, and higher for product or specialist work, but the range varies by city, company and stack. Verify current figures on the official careers page or offer letter before you compare offers.
Skills and proof employers respond to#
For fresher software roles in India, the pattern is consistent across postings: one language done properly, one database, one version control tool, and one deployed project you can demo live. Java and DSA keep appearing in senior titles like "Senior Software Engineer (Java & DSA)" at Okta, which tells you the baseline interview bar. Python, JavaScript, SQL and Git are the safest core set.
Certifications help only when they back a skill you can show. A cloud fundamentals cert plus a deployed project on that cloud is worth more than five course certificates with no code behind them. Portfolio links beat adjectives every time.
A checklist for what to have ready before you apply:
- A GitHub profile with two pinned repos that build and run without manual steps
- One live project with a public URL, plus a short README explaining the problem it solves
- A resume in one page, with contact details, skills, projects and education in that order
- A short note on the stack you used and one tradeoff you made, ready to say out loud
- Basic DSA practice, roughly 100 solved problems across arrays, strings, trees and hashing
- A LinkedIn profile that matches your resume, with the same project links
Rewriting a fresher resume bullet#
Most freshers write "Worked on a web application using React and Node". That tells an employer nothing. Here is the same work written so it reads like evidence.
Before: "Made a project in React and Node for college submission."
After: "Built and deployed a hostel complaint tracker in React, Node.js and PostgreSQL for 200+ students; cut average resolution time from 5 days to 2 by adding status tracking and email alerts; code on GitHub with live demo link."
The rewrite works because it names the stack, gives a number you can defend, states the effect, and points to proof. If your project has no users yet, use a smaller honest number: test cases covered, records handled, or milliseconds shaved off a query. You can draft and format versions like this with the resume builder before you start applying.
Where entry-level openings actually get posted#
Company career pages first. Bosch Group, HCL Technologies and Wipro all post in volume on aggregator feeds, but their own portals often carry fresher drives that never reach a job board. Set alerts on the big boards too, since 482 of the 800 software listings went up in the last week alone.
Walk-in drives still matter. One listing on the feed is literally titled "Walk-In Interview - Junior Business Operations (IT Application Support) Graduate" at Rentokil Initial. Staffing firms and campus placement cells are the other two channels that regularly carry fresher-friendly roles, so register with the ones that specialise in IT staffing.
A 7-step plan for the next 8 weeks#
-
Pick one language and one stack. Java with SQL, or JavaScript with Node and a database. Two weeks of focused basics beats two months of shallow browsing.
-
Build one real project end to end. Not a tutorial clone. Something a college, shop or local service could actually use, deployed on a free tier.
-
Write the resume around that project. Put it above education, and rewrite every bullet to show a number and a result.
-
Set up job alerts across company portals and boards. Check the software jobs hub weekly, since listings refresh fast.
-
Apply in batches of 10 per week, tracking company, role, date and status in a simple sheet. Follow up once after seven days.
-
Practise DSA and system basics in parallel. Three problems a day, plus one mock interview per week with a friend.
-
Add one certification only after the project is live. Cloud fundamentals or a database credential, chosen to match the roles you are actually seeing.

FAQ#
How many software jobs for freshers are open in India right now?
On 14 October 2026, the JobRise feed showed 800 open software listings in India, with 694 posted in the last 30 days. Only 4 of those carried clearly entry-level titles, so plan to compete for roles that do not say "fresher".
Which cities have the most software openings?
Bengaluru leads with 327 listings, followed by Pune (39), Gurugram (38) and Mumbai (30). If you are outside these cities, factor relocation or remote work into your search from week one.
What salary should a fresher software developer expect?
Only 38 of 800 listings showed pay, and those ranged from ₹0.1-4.8 LPA at Site4Placements to ₹22.0-22.0 LPA at Trigent Software Private Limited. Fresher offers commonly sit in the ₹3 to ₹8 LPA band for support-adjacent work and higher for product roles, but verify current figures on official sources.
Do certifications help without experience?
They help when they back a project you can demo. A cloud fundamentals certificate plus a deployed app on that cloud carries far more weight than several course badges with no code behind them.
Is application support a good entry point?
Yes, it is one of the few channels that consistently hires graduates. Two of the four entry-level looking listings on the feed were application support roles at Rentokil Initial, which is typical of how freshers get into software teams.
