Guess first, no penalty. In an experiment with 758 BCG consultants, people using GPT-4 on a task outside what AI does well were how likely to get the right answer, compared with people working without AI?
That study, a Harvard Business School working paper from 2023, found both sides. On tasks inside AI's abilities, people did "12.2% more tasks and completing them 25.1% more quickly on average", with better quality. On a task outside them, people using AI were "19% less likely to produce correct solutions".
"Jagged" means the line between the two is uneven: tasks that look alike can land on different sides. Product work has both.
