In the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, employers expect "Tertiary and Secondary Education Teachers" to be among the jobs with the largest growth in numbers between 2025 and 2030. That's what employers expect, not a count, and it reflects many trends, not AI alone.
Anthropic's study of real AI use at work, Labor market impacts of AI, gives no figure for teachers. So the honest picture is the task split: AI drafts, and you plan, check, adapt, grade and look after learners.
Teaching work is moving toward:
- designing tasks that show a student's own thinking;
- teaching learners to use AI well and honestly;
- instructional design (planning whole courses and training programs);
- L&D (learning and development, the training team inside a company);
- leading AI policy at your school or workplace.
Worked example
A 90-day plan has three parts: one AI skill, one teaching skill, one project that proves both.
AI skill: write clear prompts (the instructions I give the AI) for quizzes,
and check every answer key.
Teaching skill: design assessments where the reasoning is visible.
Project: redesign one assignment so AI use is allowed, but the student's
own explanation is what gets graded. Run it with one class and share the
