Finance Salary and Job Market in Canada 2026
You want a finance job in Canada and you cannot tell what the pay really looks like, because almost nobody posts it.
That is the single biggest obstacle in this market right now. You will spend hours tailoring applications and still have no idea whether an offer is fair until the very last conversation.
Here is what the data actually shows, what pay norms look like in Canadian finance roles, and how to handle the money talk without guessing.
What the market looks like right now#
As of 14 October 2026, the JobRise live jobs feed shows 58 open finance listings in Canada. Of those, 47 were posted in the last 30 days and 32 in the last 7 days.
That is a fast-moving slice. Most of the market was refreshed within the past month, so listings you see this week are not leftovers from a stale quarter.
All 58 are full-time. Not one is labelled intern, graduate, junior, or trainee. If you are early career, you will be competing for roles titled "administrator," "clerk," or "specialist" instead.

Who is hiring#
The companies with the most open finance listings in this snapshot are Charger Logistics Inc (8), Aviso Wealth (6), Ubisoft (5), Stripe (4), Boldr (4), Lyft (4), Brex (4), NFI Group Inc. (2), Peter Lucas Project Management Inc. (2), and Rentokil Initial (2).
Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms rather than the end employer. Read the listing carefully. A payroll clerk role posted by a staffing agency may sit inside a much larger company, and the contract terms can differ from a direct hire.
For country context, the JobRise Hiring Report: Canada shows 1,255 open listings across all categories, with 880 posted in the last 30 days. Finance is a meaningful slice of that, but it is not the whole market.
Where the jobs are#
Toronto (17) and Montreal (9) lead. Vancouver (8) and Brampton (8) are close behind, and Regina (2) rounds out the top cities.
Brampton standing next to Vancouver is a useful detail. A lot of finance operations, payroll, and shared services work sits in the GTA suburbs where rents are lower than downtown Toronto. Do not filter yourself out by only searching the city centre.
Bilingual roles show up often in this data. Aviso Wealth lists a "Bilingual Supervisor, New Accounts, Temporary" role, and Charger Logistics Inc lists a "Bilingual Accountant - (Spanish/English)." French and Spanish both open doors.
What the listings actually pay#
Zero of the 58 listings show a salary. That is not a typo. Every single one hides the number until the offer stage.
This is common in Canadian finance postings, and it puts the burden on you to arrive at the conversation prepared. You cannot negotiate what you have not researched.
Typical reported ranges vary a lot by city, industry, and company size, so treat these as rough orientation only and verify against current sources before you quote anything:
- Payroll and benefits administrator: roughly $55,000 to $75,000 per year
- Payroll clerk or accounting clerk: roughly $45,000 to $60,000 per year
- Treasury operations specialist: roughly $65,000 to $90,000 per year
- Senior audit accountant: roughly $80,000 to $105,000 per year
- Manager, corporate finance: roughly $110,000 to $150,000 per year
Montreal often runs lower than Toronto for the same title. Vancouver sits in between. Regina can surprise you, because energy and agribusiness employers sometimes pay above what the city size suggests.
How Canadian finance pay is structured#
Base salary is only part of the picture. What sits around it changes by employer type.
Annual bonus is standard in banking, wealth management, and corporate finance. It can range from a few percent of base at the coordinator level to a meaningful multiple at manager level and above. Ask what the target percentage is and what it has actually paid out in the last two years.
Some employers pay a 13th month, usually as a guaranteed thirteenth cheque rather than a performance bonus. It is more common in older institutions and in some Quebec-based firms. Ask whether it is contractual.
Stock or equity appears in tech-adjacent finance roles. Stripe, Lyft, Brex, and Ubisoft all operate in worlds where equity or long-term incentive plans are normal. Ask for the grant size, the vesting schedule, and the current valuation basis. A grant means nothing without those three facts.
Group RRSP matching is common and worth real money. A 3 to 5 percent match on a $90,000 base is $2,700 to $4,500 per year that you should not leave on the table.
Benefits vary more than people expect. Some plans cover a spouse and dependants from day one, others after three months. Dental, paramedical, and mental health coverage differ widely.
Remote and hybrid arrangements are part of compensation now. A role that saves you two hours of commuting per day has value. Price it in.
The numbers to verify yourself#
Do not quote legal thresholds from memory or from an article. For minimum wage, look up the current rate on the official Government of Canada or your provincial employment standards site. The number changes and the rules differ by province.
The same goes for overtime rules, statutory holiday pay, and severance entitlements. Name the rule you are asking about and check the current official source. Employment standards are provincial, and a payroll administrator in Ontario is not covered by the same rules as one in Alberta.
For immigration-linked salary thresholds, use the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada site. Recruiters often quote a figure that is months out of date.
How to negotiate without a posted number#
Since no listing shows pay, you need a plan before the recruiter screen. Use the free salary negotiation guide to walk through the mechanics, and do the research first.
A worked example for the "Treasury Operations Specialist" type of role at Charger Logistics Inc. Say your research points to $75,000 to $85,000 per year for that title in the GTA, and you would accept $78,000.
Do not open with your minimum. Say this instead:
"Based on the scope you have described, and the market for treasury operations specialists in the GTA, I would be looking at $85,000 to $92,000 per year as a base. I am open to discussing the total package, including bonus and RRSP matching."
That gives an anchor above your target without insulting anyone. It also invites the conversation toward total compensation, which is where Canadian finance offers are actually won.
If they ask for your current salary, you can decline politely:
"I would rather focus on the scope of this role and the market rate for it. I am confident we can land somewhere that works for both sides."
If they push back on the number, ask for the band:
"That is helpful context. What range has the team budgeted for this position?"
Silence after you state a number is fine. Let them fill it.
A short checklist before you accept#
- Ask for the offer in writing, with base, bonus target, and start date
- Confirm whether the bonus is contractual or discretionary
- Ask what the bonus has actually paid out in the last two years
- Get the RRSP match percentage and the vesting terms
- For equity, ask for grant size, vesting schedule, and valuation basis
- Confirm the benefits start date and what is covered for dependants
- Ask about the in-office expectation in writing
- Clarify probation length and what changes at the end of it
- Ask who the payroll employer of record is if a staffing firm is involved
Where to look next#
The Toronto and GTA volume means you should be applying there even if you live elsewhere, because many of these roles are hybrid rather than fully on-site. Charger Logistics Inc, Aviso Wealth, and the staffing firms on the list are worth watching closely, since they repeat hiring for similar finance titles.
Set alerts for payroll, treasury, audit, and financial reporting titles. The market refreshes fast, and 32 of the 58 listings in this snapshot were less than a week old.

FAQ#
What is a realistic salary for a finance role in Canada in 2026?
It depends heavily on title, city, and employer type. Rough reported ranges for full-time roles run from about $45,000 to $60,000 per year for payroll clerks up to $110,000 to $150,000 per year for corporate finance managers, and these vary by market. Verify against current sources before quoting any number.
Why do so few finance listings in Canada show pay?
Employers often treat salary as negotiable and worry that a posted number will either cap the offer or scare off candidates. The 14 October 2026 JobRise snapshot shows zero of 58 finance listings with a salary, which is typical of the category.
Is a 13th month salary standard in Canada?
No, it is not standard, but some employers offer it, especially older institutions and certain Quebec-based firms. Ask whether a thirteenth cheque is contractual or discretionary before you count it in your expected income.
Should I tell a recruiter my current salary?
You are not obliged to, and anchoring to your past pay can hold you below the market rate for the new role. Redirect the conversation to the scope of the position and the band the employer has budgeted.
How do I negotiate when the listing shows no salary?
Do your research on the title and city first, then open with a range above your target and invite the conversation toward total compensation. Ask for the budgeted band if the employer pushes back, and get everything in writing before you accept.
