Healthcare Salary and Job Market in Germany 2026

JobRise Team8 min read

Seven open roles. That's the whole healthcare slice on JobRise right now. If you're job hunting in this field in Germany, you already know the market is picky, and a feed with 7 listings tells you more about how to target than where to flood with applications.

What the data actually shows#

Snapshot: 14 October 2026, JobRise live jobs feed (jobrise.io). Open listings in the healthcare slice for Germany: 7, all posted in the last 30 days, and all 7 landed in the last 7 days. For context, the same feed shows 1,846 open listings across all categories in Germany, with 1,642 posted in the last 30 days, per the JobRise Hiring Report: Germany.

So healthcare is a sliver, roughly a fraction of a percent of the total feed. That's normal for a niche category on a generalist board. It also means each listing is worth reading twice.

Who's hiring: United Imaging Healthcare (1), Otsuka Pharma GmbH (1), Merantix (1), NXT Hero GmbH (1), My Project Box (1), Rotzinger Group (1), Feather (1). One role each. No employer is stacking headcount.

Cities: Frankfurt (2), Dortmund (1), Berlin (1), Munich (1), Waiblingen (1). Frankfurt is the outlier, and both roles there are senior-ish. Everything is Full-time (7). Zero of the 7 look entry-level: no intern, graduate, junior, or trainee titles in the slice.

My read: this is a senior-only snapshot. If you're early career, this particular feed isn't your entry point this week, and you should be looking at hospital groups, pharma grad programs, and medtech field teams instead.

The roles themselves#

Titles give away the seniority. "Clinical Application Specialist (Angio/XR)" at United Imaging Healthcare is a field/training role for imaging equipment. "Lead Medical Affairs Nephrology DACH (m/w/d)" at Otsuka Pharma GmbH is a medical affairs leadership post covering Germany, Austria, Switzerland.

"@FICUS Health Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), starting ASAP (m/w/d)" at Merantix is a C-level commercial hire at a health venture. "Senior Qualifizierungsingenieur Pharma-Reinmedien (m/w/d)" at NXT Hero GmbH sits in pharma cleanroom qualification, a validated-equipment niche that pays better than general QA. "M&A Manager (m/w/d) - Healthcare / Health-Tech" at My Project Box is deal work, not care delivery.

"Senior Buchhalter (m/w/x)" at Rotzinger Group is accounting inside an industrial group, healthcare-adjacent at best. "Health claims lead (f/m/x)" at Feather is insurance product work at a digital insurer. Two of these seven aren't clinical at all, which is worth knowing before you filter by "healthcare" and expect patient-facing work.

The salary question#

Zero of the 7 listings show a salary. Not one. That's the reality of German job ads, especially at senior level, where pay is negotiated per candidate and HR keeps it off the ad on purpose.

So treat everything below as typical reported ranges, not offers. They vary by city, company size, and how bad the employer wants you. Verify current figures against the official sources before you anchor on any of them.

Rough monthly gross ranges for full-time roles in Germany, full-time, gross per month, seniority-based:

  • Junior / early career (0-2 years): roughly EUR 3,200 to 4,200 per month gross
  • Mid-level (3-7 years): roughly EUR 4,500 to 6,200 per month gross
  • Senior / specialist (8+ years): roughly EUR 6,500 to 9,000 per month gross
  • Lead / Head / C-level: roughly EUR 9,000 to 14,000+ per month gross

A CCO or M&A Manager role can sit well above the top of that band in cash and equity, while a Buchhalter role sits mid-band. Field roles like the Clinical Application Specialist often add a car allowance or company car on top.

For the legal floor, don't trust a blog number: check the current statutory minimum wage (Mindestlohn) with the Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales, and check any visa or Blue Card salary threshold with the official Bundesagentur für Arbeit or Auswärtiges Amt pages. Those figures move, and getting them wrong costs you the permit.

How German pay packages are built#

Base salary (Grundgehalt) is the anchor. Everything else is layered on, and the layers differ by company.

The 13th month (13. Monatsgehalt) is common in pharma, medtech, and industrial groups. Sometimes it's contractual, sometimes it's a "freiwillige Sonderzahlung" the employer can drop, so get it in writing as a fixed amount or a fixed percentage.

Bonus (variable Vergütung) shows up in commercial and M&A roles more than in engineering. For a CCO or M&A Manager, ask what the target bonus is as a percentage of base, and what the payout history looked like the last two years.

Equity or virtual shares appear at startups and health-tech scale-ups like Merantix or Feather. Ask for the strike price, vesting schedule, and what happens in an exit. Paper equity is worth nothing until you see the terms.

Company car, Deutschlandticket subsidy, pension top-up (betriebliche Altersvorsorge), and training budgets are all negotiable in this slice. In the DACH pharma world, a car or car allowance is standard at Lead level.

There's no "superannuation" here, that's an Australian term. The German equivalent is the employer's contribution to your statutory pension plus any betriebliche Altersvorsorge on top. Ask what the employer adds monthly to bAV.

Negotiating the offer#

German employers expect negotiation. Coming in 8 to 12 percent above the first number is normal and won't kill the offer.

Worked example. Say the first offer for a Senior Qualifizierungsingenieur role is EUR 6,800 per month gross. You reply:

"I'm very interested in the role and the team. Based on my eight years in pharma qualification and the responsibility in this position, I'd be looking at EUR 7,400 per month gross. If the base is fixed, could we look at a company car allowance or a contractual 13th month to close the gap?"

That script does three things: names your number, gives a reason tied to the work, and offers a second lever when base won't move.

Never negotiate by email alone for a senior role. Ask for a 20-minute call, and get the final package in the signed contract, not in a verbal promise.

Quick checklist for the offer stage:

  • Get the gross monthly base and the 13th month stated in EUR in the contract
  • Ask whether the bonus is contractual or discretionary, and what the target percentage is
  • Confirm the pension contribution (bAV) and any employer top-up in EUR per month
  • Ask about a company car or Deutschlandticket subsidy for field roles
  • For equity, get vesting, strike price, and exit terms in writing
  • Ask for the earliest possible start date in writing, "ASAP" in an ad is a signal they'll move on pay to start soon

FAQ#

Is healthcare in Germany a good field to job hunt in right now?

On JobRise's feed it's a small slice: 7 open listings as of 14 October 2026, all senior-ish. The broader German market is bigger than any one board, so cross-check with hospital career pages, pharma company sites, and medtech field teams.

Why do none of the healthcare listings show a salary?

German employers keep pay off ads at senior level because it's negotiated per candidate and per budget. It's frustrating, but it's the norm, so go into the first call ready to ask for the band yourself.

What's a realistic salary for a Clinical Application Specialist in Germany?

Field roles in imaging and medtech typically land in the mid to upper monthly gross bands above, with a car or car allowance on top. Ranges vary by city and by how specialized the modality is, so verify against current sources before you anchor.

Do I get a 13th month in every German healthcare job?

No. It's common in pharma and industrial groups, less so in startups. Ask directly whether it's contractual or discretionary, and if it's contractual, get the exact amount or percentage written into the contract.

Where do I check the legal minimum wage and visa salary thresholds?

Go to the official sources: the Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales for the Mindestlohn, and the Bundesagentur für Arbeit or Auswärtiges Amt for Blue Card and permit thresholds. Those figures change, so never rely on a blog number for anything legal.
