Software Salary and Job Market in Brazil 2026
You are looking at a software offer in Brazil and you cannot tell whether the number is fair, because the job posting never said what it pays. That is normal here. Very few listings show pay, so you have to bring your own range to the table.
Here is what the current data says, what local pay actually looks like, and how to negotiate without guessing.
What the job market looks like right now#
As of 14 October 2026, JobRise's live feed shows 17 open Software jobs in Brazil. All 17 were posted in the last 30 days, and 14 of them went up in the last 7 days. Treat these as counts of open listings on one site, not as a market survey.
Demand is concentrated. Bosch Group has 11 of the 17 listings, followed by Google with 2. Oowlish Technology, Wipro, Double, and CloudGeometry have 1 each. Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms, so read the listing carefully before assuming who signs your contract.
Geography is even narrower. Campinas has 9 listings, São Paulo has 1, and Joinville has 1. The rest are remote or unlabelled. Every listing is full-time, so if you want part-time or freelance software work, this slice will not help you.
Entry-level candidates have a thin market. Only 2 of the 17 titles look junior, including "ASSISTENTE BACKOFFICE JR (35993-35995-35996-35997)" at Bosch Group and "ENGENHEIRO PLANEJAMENTO SEGURANÇA QUALIDADE JR - 35765" at Bosch Group. Most roles ask for pleno or senior experience, such as "DESENVOLVEDOR(A) BACKEND PL - 021" and "Senior Software Engineer, Localization On AI Answers" at Google.
For context, JobRise shows 81 open listings across all categories in Brazil. Software is a real slice of that, but it is not the whole market.

The salary question nobody answers in the posting#
Zero of the 17 listings show a salary. Not one. That is the single most useful fact here, because it tells you the negotiation starts before the offer, not after it.
Recruiters in Brazil often ask your expectation first. Have a number ready, stated per month, and give a range with a floor you would actually accept.
Typical reported ranges by seniority#
These are not from the listings, since no listing shows pay. They are typical ranges people report for full-time software roles in Brazil, and they vary a lot by company, city, stack, and whether the contract is CLT or PJ. Verify against current sources before you use any of them.
- Junior developer: roughly R$3,500 to R$6,000 per month, CLT.
- Pleno developer: roughly R$7,000 to R$12,000 per month, CLT.
- Senior developer: roughly R$13,000 to R$22,000 per month, CLT.
- Staff or lead level: roughly R$23,000 to R$35,000 per month, CLT.
Multinationals and well-funded remote employers often pay above these bands. PJ contracts usually quote a higher gross number because you handle your own taxes and benefits, so do not compare a PJ figure directly to a CLT one.
How Brazilian pay packages actually work#
The number on the offer letter is not the whole offer. In Brazil you need to ask what the total package looks like.
The 13th salary (décimo terceiro) is a mandatory extra month of pay, usually split across two payments in November and December. It is standard for CLT contracts and you should assume it is included, but confirm the split.
Férias remuneradas is paid vacation, plus one third of a month's salary as the vacation bonus (terço constitucional de férias). That bonus is real money and people forget to count it.
Vale-refeição or vale-alimentação (VR/VA) is common and the monthly amount varies widely by employer. Vale-transporte exists too, though remote roles usually drop it.
Some employers add plano de saúde and plano odontológico, with varying co-participation. Others add a private pension (previdência privada), sometimes with employer matching. Ask if there is matching and how long it takes to vest.
Equity or stock is rare outside multinationals and startups. When it is offered, ask how many shares, at what strike price, what the vesting schedule is, and what happens in an acquisition.
Clarify whether the contract is CLT or PJ before you compare numbers. CLT gives you the labor protections and the benefits above. PJ is a service contract, and you are responsible for taxes, your own accounting, and your own benefits.
For legal thresholds such as the national minimum wage, the FGTS rules, or the salary floors in collective bargaining agreements (convenção coletiva), do not rely on numbers quoted in articles. Check the current official source: the Ministry of Labor (MTE), the relevant sindicato for your category, or a contador.
How to negotiate an offer#
Do not negotiate in the interview. Wait until you have a written offer, then negotiate the whole package.
First, get the offer in writing with the base salary, the contract type (CLT or PJ), the VR/VA amount, the benefits, and any bonus or equity terms. If the recruiter only says a number on a call, ask for it by email before you respond.
Second, build your range. Use the bands above as a starting point, then adjust for the city, the stack, and the employer type. Set a floor, the lowest monthly amount you would accept for this specific role, and write it down before the call.
Third, negotiate more than base. If the company cannot move on salary, ask for a signing bonus, a higher VR/VA, an extra week of vacation, a private pension match, or a written review at six months instead of twelve. These cost the employer less than raising base pay and they improve your real compensation.
Fourth, give a reason, not an ultimatum. "Based on the market for senior roles with this stack and the responsibilities in the description, I was expecting something closer to X per month" works. "I need more money" does not.
Here is a script you can adapt.
"Thank you for the offer. I am excited about the role and the team. Before I sign, I wanted to talk about the compensation. Based on what I see for senior full-stack roles with this stack in Brazil, and the scope we discussed, I was expecting something closer to R$18,000 per month rather than R$15,000. Is there flexibility on the base? If not, would the company consider a signing bonus or a review at six months to close the gap?"

A rewritten resume bullet before you apply#
Negotiation is easier when your resume already shows impact. Compare these two bullets.
Before: "Worked on the backend of the payments platform."
After: "Owned the Node.js services behind the payments platform, cutting average response time from 900ms to 220ms and handling a 3x traffic increase during Black Friday without downtime."
The second bullet gives the recruiter something to justify a higher band. Numbers, scope, and a named result do more than any adjective.
Checklist before you accept#
- Get the offer in writing, including base salary, contract type, and start date.
- Confirm CLT or PJ, and get the difference in writing if the offer is PJ.
- Ask for the monthly VR/VA amount, not just "we have benefits".
- Ask about 13th salary, vacation bonus, and how the 13th is split.
- Ask if there is a private pension match and how it vests.
- Ask about equity, vesting schedule, and what happens on acquisition.
- Ask about review cycles and whether raises are written into the contract.
- Check the sindicato convenção coletiva for your category and state.
- Confirm the work arrangement: remote, hybrid, or on-site, and whether that changes pay.
FAQ#
How much does a software engineer earn in Brazil in 2026?
Typical reported ranges for full-time CLT roles run from about R$3,500 per month for junior to R$22,000 per month for senior, with staff and lead roles higher. These are not from job listings, since no listing in the current slice shows pay, so verify against current sources before relying on them.
Do Brazilian tech jobs usually list salary in the posting?
Rarely. In the current JobRise slice for software roles in Brazil, none of the 17 open listings show a salary. Assume you will have to state your expectation and negotiate the number yourself.
Should I accept a PJ offer over a CLT offer?
PJ usually quotes a higher gross number, but you handle your own taxes, accounting, and benefits. Compare the total package, not the headline figure, and talk to a contador before deciding.
What is the 13th salary and do I get it?
The 13th salary (décimo terceiro) is an extra month of pay, typically split across two payments near the end of the year, and it is standard for CLT contracts. Confirm the split in your offer letter, because it affects your monthly cash flow.
Where do I check the official salary rules for my role?
Check the convenção coletiva from the sindicato for your category and state, and the current guidance from the Ministry of Labor (MTE). Do not trust numbers quoted in blog posts for legal thresholds such as minimum wage or FGTS rules.
