Wipro Hired 30,000+ Freshers Last Year. But 12 Lakh Applied.#

That's a selection rate of about 2.5%.

We talked to 40+ candidates who got selected at Wipro in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 hiring cycles, across Elite NTH, Turbo, and WILP tracks. Students from KIIT Bhubaneswar, VIT Chennai, SRM, Manipal, Chandigarh University, Amity, DTU, IP University, and multiple NITs. This guide is based on what they actually experienced, not recycled content from 2020.

Here's what surprised us the most: Wipro's interview process has changed significantly in the last 2 years. The online test format is different, the coding difficulty has increased, and the HR round now includes specific Wipro-culture questions that didn't exist before. Most guides online are outdated. This one isn't.

Wipro Hiring Tracks: Elite vs Turbo vs WILP#

This is the first thing you need to understand because each track has a different process, different salary, and different career trajectory.

Wipro Elite NTH (National Talent Hunt)

  • Salary: 3.5 LPA (as of 2025-26 batch)
  • Who it's for: B.Tech/MCA/M.Tech freshers from any branch
  • Minimum criteria: 60% throughout academics (10th, 12th, graduation), no active backlogs
  • Process: Online test → Technical interview → HR interview
  • Role: Project Engineer

This is Wipro's mass hiring track, similar to TCS Ninja. The volume is huge, which means the competition is fierce but the cutoff is relatively moderate. Most off-campus candidates enter through this track.

Wipro Turbo

  • Salary: 6.5-7 LPA (as of 2025-26 batch)
  • Who it's for: High-performing B.Tech/MCA candidates, typically from better-ranked colleges
  • Minimum criteria: 65%+ throughout academics, strong coding skills
  • Process: Same online test (but higher cutoff) → Technical interview (harder) → HR interview
  • Role: Senior Project Engineer

Turbo is Wipro's answer to TCS Digital. Same exam, but you need to score significantly higher to get into the Turbo pipeline. The salary difference between Elite (3.5 LPA) and Turbo (6.5-7 LPA) is nearly 2x, so if you can push for Turbo, push hard. (Same advice we give for TCS Digital in our TCS interview guide.)

Wipro WILP (Work Integrated Learning Programme)

  • Salary: 3.5 LPA during the learning period, higher after completion
  • Who it's for: B.Sc, BCA, B.Com graduates (non-engineering)
  • What it is: You work at Wipro while simultaneously completing a B.Tech/M.Tech degree through BITS Pilani
  • Duration: 4-5 years (work + study combined)
  • Process: Online test → Interview → Joining

WILP is genuinely unique. If you're a BCA or BSc graduate who wants both a B.Tech/M.Tech degree AND work experience simultaneously, this is one of the few programs in India that offers it. The catch: it's intense. You're working full-time AND studying. But several WILP graduates we talked to said it was worth it. They ended up with a BITS degree, 4 years of Wipro experience, and a 10+ LPA package by the time they finished.

Wipro NLTH Online Test Pattern 2026#

The Wipro NLTH (National Level Talent Hunt) is an online proctored exam. Here's the pattern based on what 2025-26 candidates actually faced.

Section 1: Aptitude Test

ComponentTopicsQuestionsTime
Quantitative AbilityPercentages, profit & loss, time & work, averages, ratios, probability, permutations16-18 questionsCombined
Logical ReasoningSeries, coding-decoding, blood relations, seating arrangement, syllogisms, puzzles14-16 questionsCombined
Verbal AbilityReading comprehension, grammar, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, para jumbles12-14 questionsCombined

Total: ~45 questions in 48 minutes. Speed matters here: less than a minute per question.

Section 2: Written Communication (Essay)

ComponentDetailsTime
Essay WritingOne topic, 200-400 words20 minutes

Recent essay topics candidates reported:

  • "The role of AI in education"
  • "Remote work: boon or bane for freshers?"
  • "Digital India and its impact on rural employment"
  • "Climate change and corporate responsibility"

This section catches a lot of students off guard. They prep extensively for aptitude and coding but write a mediocre essay. Wipro evaluates grammar, coherence, structure, and original thinking. A well-structured 300-word essay with clear paragraphs and no grammatical errors scores better than a rambling 500-word piece.

Pro tip from a selected candidate at VIT: "I practiced 2 essays per week for a month before the exam. I used a timer. That's what helped. Not reading essay samples, but actually writing under time pressure."

Section 3: Coding

ComponentDetailsTime
Coding Question 1Easy-Medium difficultyPart of combined time
Coding Question 2Medium difficultyPart of combined time

Total: 2 coding questions in 30 minutes. Languages allowed: C, C++, Java, Python.

Common coding topics:

  • String manipulation (reverse, palindrome, anagram)
  • Array operations (sorting, searching, subarray problems)
  • Basic data structures (stack, queue, linked list operations)
  • Pattern printing
  • Number theory (prime, factorial, Fibonacci)
  • Basic recursion

The difficulty level is lower than TCS NQT coding section, but the time is tighter. You get 15 minutes per question on average. If you can solve LeetCode Easy problems consistently in under 15 minutes, you're in good shape.

Cutoff Scores (Approximate)

TrackApproximate Cutoff
Wipro Elite55-60% overall
Wipro Turbo75-80% overall

Critical note: The essay section is evaluated but not scored numerically in most cases. However, a very poor essay (plagiarized, off-topic, or severely grammatically incorrect) can disqualify you even if your aptitude and coding scores are above cutoff. Don't treat it as an afterthought.

Wipro Technical Interview Questions: 20 Most-Asked#

The technical interview lasts 20-45 minutes. Based on our conversations with selected candidates, Wipro technical interviews lean heavily on Java, DBMS, and networking, more so than TCS. If you know Java, you have an advantage. If you don't, they'll ask about whatever language you've listed on your resume.

Java / OOP Questions

#QuestionKey Points
1What is the difference between JDK, JRE, and JVM?JDK: development kit (includes compiler). JRE: runtime environment (includes JVM + libraries). JVM: virtual machine that executes bytecode. JDK ⊃ JRE ⊃ JVM.
2Explain the four pillars of OOP with Java examples.Encapsulation (private fields + public getters/setters), Abstraction (abstract class/interface), Inheritance (extends keyword), Polymorphism (overloading + overriding). Give code snippets.
3What is the difference between Abstract class and Interface in Java?Abstract: can have constructors, instance variables, concrete methods, single inheritance. Interface: no constructors, only abstract methods (pre-Java 8), multiple implementation. Post-Java 8: interfaces can have default methods.
4Explain Exception handling in Java.try-catch-finally, throw, throws. Checked vs Unchecked exceptions. Checked: must handle (IOException). Unchecked: runtime (NullPointerException). Always close resources in finally or use try-with-resources.
5What is multithreading? How do you create threads in Java? Two ways: extend Thread class or implement Runnable interface. Runnable is preferred (Java supports single inheritance). Key concepts: start(), run(), sleep(), join(), synchronized.

DBMS Questions

#QuestionKey Points
6What is normalization? Explain up to 3NF.Reducing redundancy. 1NF: atomic values, no repeating groups. 2NF: 1NF + no partial dependency on composite key. 3NF: 2NF + no transitive dependency.
7Write a SQL query to find the 3rd highest salary.SELECT DISTINCT salary FROM Employee ORDER BY salary DESC LIMIT 1 OFFSET 2; (MySQL). Or using subquery/DENSE_RANK() for other databases.
8What are ACID properties?Atomicity (all or nothing), Consistency (valid state transitions), Isolation (concurrent transactions don't interfere), Durability (committed = permanent).
9Difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE, and DROP?DELETE: removes rows (can use WHERE, logged, can rollback). TRUNCATE: removes all rows (faster, minimal logging, resets auto-increment). DROP: removes entire table structure.
10What is indexing? Types of indexes?Speeds up SELECT queries. Primary index (on primary key), Secondary/Non-clustered, Composite (multiple columns), Unique. Trade-off: faster reads, slower writes.

Networking Questions

#QuestionKey Points
11Explain the OSI model layers.Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, Application. Know the function of each. Network = IP/routing. Transport = TCP/UDP. Application = HTTP/FTP.
12TCP vs UDP?TCP: connection-oriented, reliable, ordered, slower (HTTP, FTP, email). UDP: connectionless, unreliable, faster (streaming, gaming, DNS).
13What happens when you type a URL in the browser?DNS resolution → TCP connection (3-way handshake) → HTTP request → Server processes → HTTP response → Browser renders HTML/CSS/JS. This question comes up A LOT.
14What is DHCP?Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Automatically assigns IP addresses to devices on a network. DORA process: Discover, Offer, Request, Acknowledge.

Data Structures

#QuestionKey Points
15Difference between Stack and Queue?Stack: LIFO (Last In First Out). Queue: FIFO (First In First Out). Applications: Stack = function calls, undo. Queue = BFS, job scheduling.
16What is a linked list? Types?Linear data structure where elements point to next. Singly (one direction), Doubly (both directions), Circular (last points to first). Advantage over array: dynamic size, O(1) insertion at head.
17Explain HashMap and its time complexity.Key-value pairs. Uses hashing. Average case: O(1) for get/put. Worst case (all collisions): O(n). Java's HashMap handles collisions with chaining (linked list, then tree after threshold).

General / Project-Related

#QuestionKey Points
18Explain your major project.Problem statement → Technologies (and why) → Your contribution → Challenges faced → Result. Practice this until it's natural.
19What is cloud computing? Types?Delivery of computing services over the internet. IaaS (infrastructure, e.g. AWS EC2), PaaS (platform, e.g. Heroku), SaaS (software, e.g. Gmail). Public, Private, Hybrid clouds.
20What is Agile methodology?Iterative development. Sprints (2-4 weeks), daily standups, retrospectives. Contrast with Waterfall. Wipro uses Agile extensively, so know this.

Wipro HR Interview: 15 Questions With Wipro-Specific Answers#

The HR round is 10-20 minutes. It seems easy, but Wipro's HR round has a higher rejection rate than most candidates expect. We've heard of candidates who aced the technical round and got rejected in HR because of careless answers about relocation or shifts.

Q1: Tell me about yourself.

Keep it under 2 minutes. Education, key skills, best project, what you're looking for. Don't recite your resume. Highlight what matters. Example: "I'm Priya, a B.Tech CS graduate from SRM Chennai. I'm proficient in Java and Python, built 3 full-stack projects, and completed AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. I'm excited about joining Wipro to work on enterprise-level applications."

Q2: Why Wipro?

This is where most candidates give a generic answer and lose points. Be specific about Wipro.

Good answer: "Wipro's focus on AI-led transformation through Wipro ai360 stands out. The company invested $1 billion in AI capabilities and is training its entire workforce on AI tools. As someone interested in the intersection of cloud and AI, that commitment to innovation is what attracts me. Plus, Wipro's Topcoder community shows the company values engineering talent."

Bad answer: "Wipro is a great company and I want to grow with it." (This tells the interviewer nothing.)

Q3: Why Wipro over TCS or Infosys?

This question comes up more than you'd expect. They're directly asking you to differentiate.

Example answer: "All three are excellent companies, but Wipro's positioning is different. The ai360 initiative, the Topcoder acquisition, and Wipro's stronger focus on consulting and digital transformation. These align with what I want to work on. Also, Wipro's FullStride Cloud Services suggests the company is doubling down on cloud, which is my area of interest."

Q4: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"In 5 years, I see myself as a technical lead at Wipro, managing a team and contributing to the architecture of enterprise applications. I'd also like to pursue relevant certifications like AWS Solutions Architect or Wipro's internal certification programs to deepen my expertise."

Q5: Are you comfortable with relocation?

Say yes. Wipro has offices in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and more. You'll be assigned based on project requirements. "I'm completely open to relocation. It's an opportunity to experience different cities and work with diverse teams."

Q6: Are you okay with working in shifts?

Say yes. Wipro serves US, European, and APAC clients, which means shift work is normal. "Yes, I understand that client deliveries depend on time zones, and I'm comfortable working in shifts as required."

Q7: What is your expected salary?

Campus salary is fixed. Wipro Elite: 3.5 LPA. Wipro Turbo: 6.5-7 LPA. WILP: 3.5 LPA (during learning period). "I'm aware of the compensation structure and I'm comfortable with it. At this stage, learning and career growth are my priorities."

Q8: Do you have any backlogs or gaps in your academics?

Be honest. Wipro verifies academic records. If you had backlogs that you've cleared, say so: "I had one backlog in my 4th semester which I cleared in the supplementary exam. It taught me better time management." Active backlogs must be cleared before joining.

Q9: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths with proof: "I'm persistent. I solved 250+ problems on LeetCode over 6 months, even when I was stuck on problems for days." Weakness with improvement: "I sometimes over-optimize code when a simpler solution would work. I've been working on shipping working solutions first and optimizing later."

Q10: Tell me about a team project you worked on.

Use STAR method: Situation → Task → Action → Result. Focus on your specific contribution, not just the team's output. Example: "In our final year project, we were a team of 4 building an e-commerce platform. I was responsible for the payment gateway integration and backend APIs. I implemented Razorpay's API, wrote the order processing logic, and handled edge cases like payment timeouts. We delivered the project 2 weeks before the deadline."

Q11: How do you handle pressure?

"I break large problems into smaller tasks and prioritize them. During our hackathon at KIIT, we had 24 hours to build a working prototype. I created a task list, assigned responsibilities, and we focused on getting the core feature working first before adding polish. We finished with time to spare."

Q12: What do you know about Wipro's service agreement?

Wipro has a service agreement of approximately 1-2 years. Show you're aware and committed. "I understand there's a service agreement, and I'm committed to it. I'm joining Wipro for the long term, not as a stepping stone."

Q13: What technologies are you most interested in?

Pick something relevant to Wipro's business. Cloud (Wipro FullStride), AI/ML (Wipro ai360), cybersecurity, or enterprise applications. "I'm most interested in cloud computing and AI integration. Wipro's FullStride Cloud services and the ai360 initiative are doing exactly this kind of work."

Q14: Do you have any questions for us?

Always ask at least one:

  • "What does the initial training program look like for freshers?"
  • "What kind of projects do freshers typically work on in their first year?"
  • "How does Wipro support continuous learning and certification?"

Q15: Are you applying to other companies as well?

Be honest but diplomatic: "Yes, I'm actively interviewing because I want to start my career at the right company. But Wipro is a strong preference because of [specific reason]."

Common Mistakes That Get You Rejected at Wipro#

Based on what selected candidates and (anonymously) interviewers told us:

  1. Writing a bad essay. Many candidates treat the essay section as throwaway. A poorly written essay with grammatical errors signals weak communication skills. Wipro serves global clients, so communication matters.

  2. Not knowing Java basics. If you listed Java on your resume, be ready for deep Java questions. One candidate from SRM told us: "The interviewer asked me about Java memory model and garbage collection. I only knew surface-level Java from college labs. It showed."

  3. Saying "I only want Bangalore". This is almost guaranteed rejection. Wipro assigns based on project needs. Show flexibility.

  4. Not researching Wipro. If you can't answer "Why Wipro?" with specifics, the interviewer assumes you're treating Wipro as a backup option. Mention ai360, FullStride Cloud, Topcoder, specific recent Wipro news.

  5. Generic answers without examples. "I'm hardworking and a team player" with no proof is worthless. Every answer should have a concrete example.

  6. Lying about skills or projects. Wipro interviewers will drill into your project. If you didn't actually build it (maybe a friend did it for you), it will become obvious within 2-3 follow-up questions.

  7. Poor essay time management. Running out of time and submitting an incomplete essay. Practice writing 300-word essays in 15 minutes.

Practice with AI Mock Interviews#

Here's the thing every selected candidate told us (we hear this pattern so consistently it cannot be coincidence): the difference between reading answers and speaking answers is enormous.

You can read all 20 technical questions above and understand them perfectly. But when someone asks you "Explain the four pillars of OOP with examples" in a live interview, and you need to respond clearly in 2-3 minutes without stuttering or going blank, that's a different skill entirely.

One candidate from Manipal University put it perfectly: "I read all the GFG articles. I knew the theory. But in the actual interview, my mind went blank on the simplest question, HashMap. I froze. After that, I practiced explaining concepts to my roommate every night for 2 weeks. The second interview I nailed it."

JobRise's AI Mock Interview Bot simulates a real Wipro interview:

  • Select "Wipro" as the company and "Fresher" as the level
  • Get asked technical, HR, and situational questions one by one
  • Respond as you would in a real interview
  • Get instant feedback on answer quality, clarity, and gaps
  • Practice unlimited times until you're confident

FAQ#

What is the Wipro Elite package for freshers in 2026?

Wipro Elite NTH offers approximately 3.5 LPA for freshers joining as Project Engineers. Wipro Turbo offers 6.5-7 LPA for Senior Project Engineer roles. WILP offers 3.5 LPA during the learning period. These figures are for the 2025-26 batch and may vary slightly.

How is Wipro's online test different from TCS NQT?

The main differences: Wipro includes an essay writing section (TCS doesn't), Wipro's aptitude section has fewer questions with tighter time, and the coding section typically has 2 questions vs TCS's 2. Wipro's overall difficulty is comparable, but the essay component catches many candidates off guard.

Can ECE/Mechanical/Civil students apply for Wipro?

Yes. Wipro hires from all engineering branches for software roles. You'll need to demonstrate programming ability through your resume and coding test. Non-CS students should highlight any coding projects, relevant coursework (like Data Structures, DBMS), and certifications. Many of the candidates we talked to were ECE students who got placed at Wipro in software roles.

How long is Wipro's training period for freshers?

The initial training (called pre-joining learning + onboarding training) typically lasts 2-4 months. It covers relevant technologies, soft skills, and project simulation. After training, you're assigned to a project. The training quality is generally rated well by freshers, better than some competitors, according to Glassdoor reviews.

What is the Wipro service bond period?

Wipro has a service agreement of approximately 1-2 years from date of joining (this can change between batches). If you leave before the agreement ends, there may be a financial penalty. Read the agreement document carefully during onboarding. Don't be afraid to ask HR questions about it.

Wipro's selection rate is under 3%. Those odds sound terrible. But here's the thing: most of those 12 lakh applicants barely prepared. They didn't practice essays under a timer. They didn't research Wipro's ai360 initiative. They didn't practice answering "Why Wipro over TCS?" with specifics.

The candidates who get selected are not geniuses. They're the ones who showed up prepared.

Follow the 30-day plan. Practice the HR answers out loud. Write essays under time pressure. Know your Java inside out if it's on your resume. Walk in knowing what to expect.
