Guess first, no penalty. Indeed's Hiring Lab rated the skills in a typical US nursing job posting for how much generative AI could change them. What share landed in the "minimal transformation" group?

Headlines about AI and nursing swing between "robots are coming" and "nothing will change". The research says something calmer and more useful.

  • Most of the job stays hands-on. In Indeed Hiring Lab's AI at Work Report 2025, two-thirds (68%) of skills in the typical nursing posting fell into "minimal transformation". Its verdict: "GenAI does not replace nurses, but has the potential to redistribute cognitive and administrative load, freeing time for patient-facing care."
  • Employers expect growth. In the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, a survey of over 1,000 employers, nursing professionals and personal care aides are among the jobs expected to grow most in numbers by 2030. That's an expectation, driven by many trends, not a promise.
  • Paperwork savings are real but mixed. In a UW Health trial with 66 practitioners, AI cut time on notes by 0.36 hours a day "without compromising" note quality. In a UCLA trial, one scribe cut note time by 9.5% and the other made no significant difference.

A worked example

Paso a paso

Before you repeat "0.36 hours a day" (about 22 minutes), ask three questions.

Paso 1 de 3: Who was measured?

Step 1 of 3

Who was measured?

Practitioners in one health system, not nurses.

So the honest version is: "In one trial, practitioners spent about 22 minutes a day less on notes."
