Petit test
Guess first, no penalty. A Microsoft Research study scored how much AI chat help applies to the work activities of each job. Where did "Interpreters and Translators" land?
The study, Working with AI, looked at 200,000 Bing Copilot conversations. "Interpreters and Translators" scored 0.492, the highest. That tells you AI help applies to a lot of language work. It doesn't say who's responsible for the text. You are.
Machine translation, or MT, is text translated by software like DeepL, Google Translate or an AI chat tool. Post-editing means correcting that output for meaning, terms and tone.
| Task | AI does today | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| Drafts | A full MT draft in seconds | Judging whether it's usable |
| Terms | CAT (computer-assisted translation) tools like Trados and memoQ suggest terms | Choosing the right term for this client |
| Subtitles | Drafts and times lines | Reading speed and jokes |
| QA (quality assurance) flags | Flags changed numbers and tags | Which flags really matter |
