Keep client text confidential

Module 1 : What AI already does in translation

Plan du cours

Cette leçon n'est pas encore dans votre langue, la voici donc en anglais.

Petit test

Guess first, no penalty. You need a quick MT draft of a client's unsigned contract. Where can you paste it?

The client's text, the client's call

Client texts can hold personal data and secrets: contracts, patient letters, unannounced products. Personal data means information about a person who can be identified, like a name, an address or a medical detail.

UK and EU data protection law, the GDPR, says personal data must be "adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary". The UK regulator, the ICO, puts it simply: "you should identify the minimum amount of personal data you need to fulfil your purpose" (ICO). Rules differ by country, and this isn't legal advice. Your contract with the client is the first place to look.

Two habits cover most cases: use only tools the client has approved, and paste the least you need.

A confidentiality line for every job

Job: patient information leaflet, English to Spanish.
Approved tools: our CAT tool with its built-in MT, per the client's terms.
Not allowed: public AI chat tools.
Before any AI step: remove patient names and case numbers.
Not sure? Ask the project manager before pasting anything.

Complétez les trous

Fill the gaps so the job stays inside the client's rules.

Question 1 sur 2

You're translating a hospital letter with a patient's name and diagnosis. Your client allows only their own CAT tool. A free AI tool would be faster. What do you do?
