Finance Salary and Job Market in India 2026
You want a finance role in India and you cannot tell what the pay really is, because almost nobody posts it. On 14 October 2026 the JobRise live jobs feed showed 82 open Finance jobs in India, and not one of those 82 listings carried a salary figure. That is the honest starting point. Everything below is a dated snapshot of that feed, plus general norms you should verify before you sign anything.
What the listings actually show#
Of those 82 open listings, 47 were posted in the last 30 days, and 32 of those landed in the last 7 days. So the slice is fresh, not a pile of stale postings.
The companies with the most open finance listings were: Rentokil Initial (16), Stripe (10), Bosch Group (7), Fivetran (7), Mongodb (7), Launchdarkly (5), Steer (3), Civica (2), Groww (2), and Elastic (2). Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms rather than the end employer, so read the fine print on who actually pays you.
City spread: Bengaluru (35), Gurugram (10), Mumbai (7), Chennai (5), Pune (4). By type, 80 were full-time and 2 were contract.
For wider context, the JobRise Hiring Report: India showed 1,867 open listings across all categories in the country, with 1,345 posted in the last 30 days. Finance is a slice of that, not the whole market.

Seniority is lopsided#
Titles that look entry-level, such as intern, graduate, junior, trainee, came to 1 out of 82 listings. The example was "Junior Associate - (6 Months Contract Role) - Royapettah (Chennai)" at Rentokil Initial.
The rest lean mid to senior. Sample open roles in the slice: "Accounts Executive (Accounts Receivable)" at Civica, "Travel 2 Expense (Immediate Joiner)" at Bosch Group, "Plant Finance Controller" at Exponent Energy, "IN_RBIC_Operations Controller, Outbound Logistics" at Bosch Group, "Financial Model Auditor - Steer India" at Steer, "IN_RBIN_Deputy Manager / Manager - Finance & Treasury" at Bosch Group, "Global Payroll Analyst" at Fivetran, and "Financial Operations & Reporting Manager" at MODIFI GmbH.
Read that as a signal. If you are fresh out of college, the funnel is narrow and you may need to widen your search to shared services, BPO finance, or short contracts to get your first line on the resume.
Typical pay ranges, hedged#
No salary in this slice. So what follows is what candidates and postings commonly report elsewhere, not a JobRise figure, and it moves with city, industry, and firm size. Treat these as rough bands and check current official or live sources before you plan around them.
Accounts Executive or AR/AP analyst: roughly ₹3.5 to ₹7 lakh CTC a year. Senior analyst or MIS analyst: roughly ₹6 to ₹12 lakh. Finance manager or business finance manager: roughly ₹12 to ₹25 lakh. Plant finance controller or regional controller: roughly ₹20 to ₹40 lakh and up. Head of finance or CFO of a mid-size firm: widely varied, often ₹40 lakh to ₹1 crore plus, with equity on top at startups.
Bengaluru and Gurugram usually pay at the higher end. Mumbai pays well in BFSI but the cost of living eats into it. Chennai and Pune often run slightly lower on cash, sometimes with better stability.
These are not offers and not guarantees. Verify against current live postings and the official company source.
How pay is actually structured here#
CTC is the number recruiters quote. It is the total cost to company, not your take-home. Inside CTC you may find employer PF, gratuity, insurance premium, and sometimes a retention bonus. Ask for the split in writing.
Bonus is usually 10 percent to 20 percent of fixed pay for manager level and above, sometimes zero at junior levels. It is rarely guaranteed unless the offer letter says so.
A 13th month cheque is not standard across India, though some MNCs and older corporates still pay it. Ask directly. Superannuation is uncommon outside certain large employers and PSU-style setups.
Equity or ESOPs show up at startups and product firms like Stripe, Mongodb, Fivetran, and Groww. Ask for the grant size, the vesting schedule, the strike price or FMV, and the buyback or exit policy. Paper wealth is not salary.
For global roles, such as the "Global Payroll Analyst" at Fivetran, the pay may be benchmarked to a wider band. Ask which geography the band is pegged to.
Negotiating the offer#
Get the whole offer in writing before you negotiate. Verbal numbers get revised.
Ask for the fixed versus variable split, the monthly gross, the employer PF contribution, the gratuity accrual, the bonus target and its payout history, and the ESOP details if any. Then compare the fixed monthly gross, not CTC, against your current number.
Use the market data you have. Say the band you have seen for similar roles, name your number, and stop talking. Silence does more work than another paragraph.
A free salary negotiation guide walks through the full script and the counter-offer math.
Worked example
Before: "Handled accounts receivable for the region."
After: "Reduced overdue receivables from 18 percent to 9 percent of the book in 11 months across a 240-account portfolio, by rebuilding the dunning cadence and escalation matrix."
Now the hiring manager can see scope and impact. That is the sentence that earns you the higher band in the same interview.
Negotiation script
"Thanks for the offer. I am excited about the role. Based on the scope we discussed and what I see for similar controller positions in Bengaluru, I was expecting a fixed component closer to ₹X. Is there room to move the fixed number, or can we look at a sign-on bonus to bridge the first year?"
If they say the band is fixed, ask: "What would need to be true in six months for a correction?" Get that in writing as a review clause.
Before you accept#
- Ask for the full CTC breakup in writing, with fixed, variable, and employer contributions listed line by line.
- Ask whether the bonus is contractual or discretionary, and what percentage of target was actually paid in the last two cycles.
- Ask about the notice period, probation terms, and any clawback on joining bonus or relocation.
- Ask about ESOP grant size, vesting schedule, strike price, and buyback history if equity is on the table.
- Ask who the legal employer is when a recruiter or staffing firm is involved, and what happens at contract end.
- Check the role location against the city data, since Bengaluru and Gurugram dominate the current slice.
- Keep applying elsewhere until the offer is signed and the start date is confirmed.
FAQ#
How many finance jobs are open in India right now?
As of the JobRise snapshot on 14 October 2026, 82 open finance listings in India, 47 posted in the last 30 days and 32 in the last 7 days. This is a count of open listings on one feed, not a market survey, so treat it as directional.
Why do so few finance listings show salary?
Because most Indian employers treat pay as negotiable and internal, and posting a number invites counter-offers and internal pay disputes. It is a market habit, not a rule. Ask for the band early in the process.
What is a realistic finance manager salary in India?
Commonly reported ranges sit around ₹12 to ₹25 lakh CTC a year, higher in Bengaluru and Gurugram and higher again in BFSI or product firms. Ranges vary a lot by scope and company size, so verify against current live postings and official sources.
Is CTC the same as take-home?
No. CTC is the total cost to company and includes employer PF, gratuity, insurance, and sometimes bonuses. Your take-home is the monthly gross minus employee PF, professional tax, and TDS, so always ask for the monthly gross number.
Should I negotiate if the offer is already at the top of the band?
Yes, but shift the ask. Push for a sign-on bonus, an early review clause, a better ESOP grant, or a higher variable target instead of fixed pay. Get whatever you agree in writing before you resign from your current role.
