Jobs in India 2026: Who Is Hiring Right Now and What to Do About It

You have sent out a stack of applications and heard back from few or none of them. That is a common feeling, and it is rarely only about your resume. Jobs in India in 2026 are not spread evenly. Some fields, cities and employers have far more openings than others, so pointing your search at them saves weeks.

On November 2, 2026, JobRise was tracking 31,970 open jobs in India. Of those, 4,903 were posted in the last 7 days and 15,303 in the last 30 days. Software is the biggest field with 6,591 open jobs, Bengaluru has 7,268 open jobs, and 21% of the jobs from sources that mark remote work are remote. Below is what that means for a fresher or someone two or three years into their career, and what to do this week.

What this data covers, and what it does not#

JobRise collects jobs from employer career pages and public job boards. That is not the whole job market, so read these numbers as a snapshot of what JobRise can see. A role listed on several sources is counted once. All counts are for jobs open at 1:05 PM UTC on November 2, 2026.

Two details matter when you read the charts:

  • 6,355 jobs were already open when JobRise started tracking on October 14, 2026. We do not know when they were posted, so they are left out of the new-job counts.
  • The new-jobs chart shows when JobRise first found each job. The tallest bar, October 15 with 2,986 new jobs, mostly reflects new job sources being added. It is not the busiest hiring day, so do not read it as a hiring surge.

Jobs in India 2026 by field#

Software, operations, data and AI, and engineering are the four largest fields. Here is the full breakdown for the fields that matter most to early-career readers:

FieldOpen jobsShare of open jobs
Software jobs6,59121%
Operations jobs3,0049.4%
Data & AI jobs2,7968.7%
Engineering jobs2,7098.5%
Finance jobs1,9626.1%
Sales jobs1,7945.6%
Marketing jobs1,0913.4%
Admin jobs9002.8%
Design jobs8802.8%
HR jobs6912.2%
Internships6692.1%
Customer support jobs6472%

Internships are their own category, with 669 open jobs. If you are still a student or in your first year out, search that category first, then look at the field the internship would lead to.

The data also has an "Other" group with 6,199 jobs (19%). Those are roles that did not match a category keyword, so they are not a real field and are not in the table. If your job title is unusual, search by the skill instead of the title. The skills section below shows which skills appear most in each field.

Jobs in India 2026 by city#

Bengaluru stands apart. It has 7,268 open jobs, 23% of the total, which is more than the next two cities combined. Hyderabad and Pune come next.

CityOpen jobsShare of open jobs
Bengaluru7,26823%
Hyderabad2,6348.2%
Pune1,6705.2%
Mumbai1,4834.6%
Gurugram1,1333.5%
Chennai9623%
Noida9142.9%
Ahmedabad1970.6%

If you already live in one of these cities, start there. If you can move, Bengaluru has the most openings, but do not relocate on the strength of a job listing you have not received yet. Choose one or two cities for your search so you can keep up with new postings in each.

Which employers have the most openings#

Wipro has the most open jobs in this data, with 1,617 (5.1%). Infosys Limited is second with 1,233. The top 15 employers together hold 31% of all open jobs, so most openings sit with employers outside that list. Keep your search wider than the top names.

#CompanyOpen jobsShare
1Wipro1,6175.1%
2Infosys Limited1,2333.9%

7Zeiss Group5701.8%
8Weekday AI5021.6%
9Dxctechnology4791.5%
10Capgemini4701.5%

Several of the biggest names, including Wipro, Infosys, EXL, Capgemini and Genpact, are IT services and outsourcing firms. Others, such as Amgen, Regeneron and NXP, work in biotech and chips. If you want a product company, search by the company name, not only the field.

Some names in the list, such as Onetp and PradeepIT Consulting Services, may be unfamiliar to you. Staffing agencies count as the employer named on the posting, so a listing can be for a client you never hear about. Before you apply, read the posting for the client name and the hiring process, and check the company's own careers page if you can find one.

For a fresher-friendly start, the mass hiring companies list on this blog covers employers with open fresher roles in more detail.

How much is remote#

21% of the jobs from sources that mark remote work are remote: 5,233 of 24,395. Only sources that say whether a job is remote are in that count, so the 21% covers 24,395 of the 31,970 open jobs. The remote share here counts remote roles limited to applicants in India.

Check the experience line before you apply to a remote role. In the sample titles shown for PradeepIT Consulting Services, the remote postings ask for "8-12 Years Exp", "8+ years" and "4 to 5 Years". A fresher should filter those out and look for the entry-level remote roles. You can browse the current remote list on the remote jobs in India page.

Skills employers ask for#

JobRise ranks skills by the number of different companies asking for them, so one employer copying the same job text cannot push a skill to the top. These are the 10 most wanted skills across all open jobs in India:

SkillCompaniesOpen jobs
Python9052,674
AWS7642,307
SQL7011,953
CI/CD6741,871
Azure6471,737
Machine learning5961,641
REST APIs5581,387
Large language models5171,140
JavaScript5091,067
CRM5021,104

JobRise does not mark any skill as rising right now. Every skill in the top 15 has a lower share of postings in the last 30 days than in the 30 days before. Treat this list as what employers want today, not as a trend to chase.

Skills differ a lot by field, so the list you put on your resume should match the jobs you are applying to. These are the top skills in the fields that matter most to early-career readers:

  • Software: Python (495 companies), AWS (475), CI/CD (451), JavaScript (389), REST APIs (380).
  • Data & AI: Python (408 companies), Machine learning (359), Large language models (295), SQL (268).
  • Operations: Project management (146 companies), Excel (128), Stakeholder management (122).
  • Finance: Excel (153 companies), Reconciliation (144), Accounts payable (87), ERP (82).
  • Sales: CRM (177 companies), Salesforce (156), Negotiation (140), English (76).
  • Marketing: SEO (112 companies), Digital marketing (94), CRM (86), English (63).
  • Customer support: Customer service (93 companies), CRM (52), English (47).
  • Design: Figma (66 companies), Design systems (57), UX design (47).
  • HR: Payroll (102 companies), Applicant tracking systems (57), Excel (43).
  • Internships: Python (29 companies), Machine learning (26), Excel (24), Microsoft Office (24), English (20).

Two skills show up across fields. Excel is in the top list for finance, operations, HR and internships. English is in the top list for sales, marketing, customer support and internships. If you have neither, they are the cheapest gaps to close.

When you write your skills section, follow these rules:

  1. List only skills you can explain in an interview and point to in a project, a course or a job task.
  2. Use the posting's exact wording where it is true for you. If a job says "Applicant tracking systems" and you have used one, write that phrase.
  3. Keep the list short and relevant. Eight skills that match the posting beat twenty that do not.

What to do this week#

Here is a short plan you can finish in a week. Each step takes one sitting.

  1. Pick one field and one or two cities. Use the tables above. A fresher with Python and SQL might start with software or data and AI in Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Pune. Write your choice down so you stop switching targets every day.
  2. Look at the newest postings in that field. The live jobs in India page lists current openings. Start with jobs posted in the last 7 days, since 4,903 were posted that week.
  3. Rebuild your skills section. Take five to eight skills from the field table that you can truly support, and put them in the order the posting uses. If you need a cleaner layout, the resume builder can help you start.
  4. Check your resume against one posting. Paste the job description into the free ATS checker, fix what it flags, then apply only if your resume matches the posting's main terms.
  5. Read the experience line and the employer name. Skip remote and senior roles that ask for years you do not have, and look for the entry-level postings in the same field.
  6. Close one skill gap. Pick one skill from the top table that appears in your field and take a short free course on the learn page. One finished course, with a small project, gives you something to name on your resume.
  7. Apply in small, steady batches. Ten applications to jobs that match the posting beat fifty to jobs that do not. If you hear nothing after a week, change your resume or your target field, not your effort.

The 30-day placement preparation plan is a good next read if you are preparing for campus hiring and want a week-by-week schedule.
