US Job Market November 2026: Where the Openings Are

JobRise10 min read

Applying to dozens of jobs and hearing nothing back is discouraging. Most of the time it happens because people apply by feel: the title sounds right, the company is well known, the city looks good. The US job market November 2026 is big enough that a few numbers can help you pick where to spend your time.

JobRise tracks 379,511 open jobs in the United States. Of those, 200,136 (53%) were posted in the last 30 days. These are jobs we collect from employer career pages and public job boards, with data as of November 2, 2026. That is not the whole US market, but it is a large and recent sample.

US job market November 2026 at a glance#

  • 379,511 open jobs
  • 40,285 new in the last 7 days, 11% of open jobs
  • 200,136 new in the last 30 days, 53% of open jobs
  • 21% remote, counted on 348,901 jobs from sources that say whether a role is remote

Two things to keep in mind when you read these numbers. First, 46,911 jobs were already open when JobRise started tracking on October 14, 2026. We do not know when they were posted, so they are left out of the new-job counts. Second, the daily chart shows when JobRise found each job, not when employers suddenly hired more. The October 15 spike (52,516 new jobs) mostly means new job sources were added that day.

Which fields have the most openings#

Healthcare has the most open jobs, with 50,868 (13% of the total). Sales and software come next.

FieldOpen jobsShare of all open jobs
Healthcare50,86813%
Sales39,61110%
Software29,0477.7%
Operations25,6146.7%
Engineering22,3065.9%
Skilled trades19,0615%
Finance16,2794.3%
Marketing14,5613.8%
Data & AI12,9463.4%
Internships8,7492.3%

The largest bucket is "Other," with 73,285 jobs (19%). Those are roles whose titles did not match our category rules, so it is not a field you can apply to. Ignore it when you filter.

Healthcare is big, but the fit depends on credentials. The top healthcare employers in the data include Sanford (3,456 open jobs), BAYADA Home Health Care (2,498) and Communicare Health (2,042), and their listings include nursing and patient care roles. If you do not hold a clinical license, check each listing's requirements before you spend time on it.

Top employers hiring right now#

Walmart has the most open jobs, 7,950 (2.1% of the total). The top 15 employers together hold 11% of all open jobs, so the market is spread across many companies. Do not put all your effort into one or two big names.

#EmployerOpen jobsShare
1Walmart7,9502.1%
2JPMorgan Chase5,0381.3%
3Sanford3,4560.9%
4SpaceX2,8310.7%

8Communicare Health2,0420.5%
9Dickssportinggoods2,0130.5%
10Whataburger2,0100.5%

The list mixes retail, banking, healthcare and engineering employers. Walmart's latest listings include member specialist and bakery associate roles, so the top employer is not only corporate jobs. SpaceX lists an avionics test technician and a heavy equipment operator, and Anduril lists a site reliability engineer. Employer names are shown as listed, and staffing agencies count as the employer named on the posting.

Cities with the most openings#

CityOpen jobsShare
New York13,4613.5%
San Francisco9,7912.6%
Chicago4,2161.1%
Boston3,7811%
Austin3,5470.9%
Los Angeles2,9470.8%
Washington2,6060.7%
Atlanta2,2960.6%
Dallas2,2180.6%
Houston2,0860.5%

New York and San Francisco have the most roles. If you can relocate, those are the biggest pools. If you cannot, the next cities on the list are much smaller, so remote roles matter more. No single city holds more than 3.5% of open jobs, so every city on this list is a small slice of the whole market.

How much of the US job market is remote#

21% of the jobs from sources that mark remote work are remote: 74,028 out of 348,901. The report counts remote roles that are limited to applicants in the United States.

The remote number only covers some sources. The biggest ones are Workday (186,083 open jobs), Greenhouse (66,503) and Himalayas (60,446), and all three mark whether a job is remote. Workable (21,845 open jobs) does not, so its jobs are left out of the 21% figure.

This means a remote filter shows you a real but partial list. Use it, then read the location line on each posting, because "remote" can still mean a specific state or time zone.

Skills US employers ask for most#

Skills in this list are ranked by how many different companies name them, so one employer's copy-pasted job text cannot push a skill to the top. CRM is first, named by 5,838 companies.

SkillCompaniesOpen jobs
CRM5,83814,756

Customer service3,91718,586
Forecasting3,8949,520
AWS3,87612,181
Go-to-market strategy3,70112,028

Python is the most-named technical skill here, with 20,022 open jobs naming it (5.3% of jobs with skill data). Its 30-day change is -38%, which means its share of recent job posts is lower than in the 30 days before. The data does not mark any skill as rising right now, so do not chase a skill because you saw it trending.

The top skills change a lot by field:

  • Sales: CRM (3,263 companies), Negotiation (2,511), Prospecting (2,396), Salesforce (2,363)
  • Software: AWS (2,668 companies), Python (2,380), CI/CD (2,368), Kubernetes (1,673)
  • Finance: Excel (1,519 companies), Reconciliation (1,160), Financial reporting (1,079)
  • Healthcare: EHR/EMR (839 companies), Patient care (739), HIPAA (532)
  • Design: Figma (826 companies, 17% of design jobs with skill data)
  • Customer support: Customer service (1,090 companies, 41% of jobs with skill data)

Skills come from job text, so they show what employers write in postings. They do not show everything a team will test you on.

What internships look like right now#

Internships are 8,749 open jobs, or 2.3% of the market. Many of them are for summer or spring 2027, so the start dates are a year out. Applying now is normal for that timeline.

The internship page on JobRise shows a mix of listings:

  • Healthcare: "Summer 2027 Student Nurse Internship Program" at Essentia Health in Minnesota, and CVS Health pharmacy internships in many states.
  • Tech: "SW Engineer Intern, AI Engineering" at Roku in San Jose, and a "Software Engineer Intern" listed as remote in the USA at wex.
  • Business: "Spring 2027 Marketing Internship" listed as remote in the USA at Bauer Entertainment, and a sales internship at Roku in New York.
  • Corporate: "Enterprise Strategy Corporate Internship - Summer 2027 (Graduate)" at CVS Health, and a range of summer internships at ParetoHealth in Philadelphia across finance, sales, product, HR and analytics.

Three cautions before you apply:

  1. A few listings are outside the US, including entries with the locations "Bertrange, LUX" and "IL - Petah Tikva." Check the location line first.
  2. The city counts on the internship page are the same as the full market report. They describe all open jobs, not internships alone.
  3. Internship categories are matched by keyword rules, so a few roles may land in a different field than their title suggests.

For internships, the skills that show up most are Python (298 companies), Data analysis (216), Excel (212) and Microsoft Office (179). If you are a student, those are the skills to point to on your resume, even if your degree is in another field.

US job market November 2026: how to apply smarter#

Here is a plan you can run this week, using only what the data shows:

  1. Pick two fields, not twenty. Choose from the field table based on skills you already have. Sales (39,611 open jobs) and software (29,047) are both large, but a field where you can show a skill matters more than the biggest number.
  2. Start with the newest posts. 40,285 jobs were posted in the last 7 days. Apply to those first, then work through the 200,136 posted in the last 30 days.
  3. Match your resume to the posting's words. If the job names Salesforce, CRM or Excel and you have used them, use the same wording. Do not add skills you cannot back up in an interview. Check your resume against the posting with the free ATS check, and paste the job description into the free job description decoder to see what the employer is really asking for.
  4. Use the remote filter, then read the location. Remote covers 21% of jobs from the sources that mark it. Make sure the role is open to where you live before you apply.
  5. Do not rely on one employer. Walmart, JPMorgan Chase and the other top 15 hold 11% of open jobs together. Apply to a few top names, then look for similar employers in your field.
  6. Tailor each cover letter. Use the cover letter tool to draft a letter for each posting, using the skills and wording from that job.
  7. Fill a skill gap with a short course. If you keep seeing Python or SQL in your field and do not have them, the free AI courses are a low-cost place to start.

The data shows where employers are hiring and what they ask for. It does not show pay. JobRise's US hiring report has no salary numbers, so check salary ranges for each role before you accept an offer.

If you are applying this week, start with one posting from the lists above. Run your resume through the free ATS check before you send it. It is free, with no signup.
