Internship Pay and Openings in India 2026

JobRise Team8 min read

You are looking at internships in India and you have no idea what the pay should be. That is normal. Most listings do not say. As of 14 October 2026, the JobRise live jobs feed shows 92 open internship listings in India, and only 2 of those 92 show any pay at all. The rest stay silent, which makes your offer harder to judge and easier to lowball.

This is a snapshot of live listings on jobrise.io, not a market survey. Treat the counts as dated and directional. For the full current set, check Internships in India directly.

What the listings show#

Of the 92 open listings, 89 were posted in the last 30 days, and 79 in the last 7 days alone. That is a fast-moving feed, and it means stale advice from even a few months ago may not match what employers are posting now.

Job types split into 60 Internship and 32 Full-time. So the internships slice is not purely internships. Some roles are full-time positions tagged into the category, likely because they are entry-level or trainee in nature. Read the job type line on each listing before you apply.

Entry-level looking titles, meaning intern, graduate, junior, trainee and similar, account for 33 of the 92. Examples include "Data Analyst Intern" at Innovexis, "HR Intern" at KNOREX, "Talent Acquisition Intern" at Lokal App, and "Career Opportunities: Intern (50944)" at Incedo. There are also junior titles that read like real work, such as "Junior Python Automation & Data Engineer".

Who is hiring#

The companies with the most open listings in this slice, as named on the listings, are: Origin (5), Lokal App (3), Incedo (3), Digitals AI Inc (2), Stripe (2), Rentokil Initial (2), and Groww (2). Innovexis, KNOREX, and Innovaccer Analytics each have 1 open listing.

A word of caution. Some of these names are recruiters or staffing firms, not the end employer. If a listing comes from a staffing firm, ask who you would actually sit with day to day, and who signs your offer letter. The brand on the listing is not always the brand on your desk.

The roles themselves are varied. "3D Artist (Blender & Unreal Engine)", "Unity3D Simulation Development (Virtual Skill Labs - Edtech/Medtech Sector)", "MERN Stack Web Developer", "Front End Development", "Web & IT Developer", "Technical Recruiter (HR)", and "Finance Research Analyst" all appear. So do "Full Stack Development" and "4614-Intern- Event Marketing" at Innovaccer Analytics. The market here is not one single track. Pick the work you can actually show a portfolio for.

Where the jobs are#

Bengaluru leads with 13 listings. Then Pune (2), Hyderabad (2), and Mumbai (2). The remainder sit in other cities or do not list a city.

Bengaluru's lead is real but it is not a landslide. If you are outside these four cities, remote or hybrid roles matter more to you. Ask about remote policy in the first call, not after the offer.

What listings actually pay#

Only 2 of the 92 listings show pay. Quoted exactly as posted:

  • "Marketing Intern" at HaystackAnalytics Pvt Ltd: ₹0.6-1.2 LPA
  • "Marketing Intern" at BiteSpeed: ₹2.4-3.0 LPA

Both are marketing internships and the ranges still differ by a factor of roughly four. That gap is your warning. There is no single "internship rate" in India. Two roles with the same title can pay very differently depending on the company, the funding, and the hours.

LPA means lakhs per annum. So ₹0.6-1.2 LPA is roughly ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per month, and ₹2.4-3.0 LPA is roughly ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 per month. Convert the number before you compare it to your rent.

Typical ranges by seniority#

Beyond the two posted figures above, treat everything else as anecdotal and verify before you rely on it. Reported stipends for internships in India vary widely, and they shift by city, company size, and whether the role is technical or not. A common pattern is that technical internships in Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad pay more than non-technical ones in smaller cities, and that funded startups sometimes match or beat larger firms on stipend while losing on brand name.

Do not quote a range in a negotiation that you cannot back up with a live listing or a current offer. Numbers move. Check official sources and current listings before you commit to a figure.

How pay is actually structured#

In India, the number on the offer is usually CTC, or cost to company. CTC is not your take-home. It can include the employer's provident fund contribution, gratuity accrual, and sometimes insurance or meal cards, none of which land in your bank account monthly.

For internships specifically, expect a plain monthly stipend rather than a full CTC package. You may not get a bonus, a 13th month, or superannuation. Those show up on full-time offers more often than on intern ones. Equity is rare for interns and, when it is offered, it is usually a small grant that vests over years. Ask what the monthly in-hand number is, in writing, before you say yes.

Two questions settle most confusion. What is the monthly amount credited to my account? And what, if anything, is deducted from it? Ask both.

How to negotiate the offer#

You have less room to negotiate an internship than a full-time role, but you have some. Use it on the number of days, the start date, the stipend, or the conversion terms after the internship ends.

A worked example. Say BiteSpeed offers "Marketing Intern" at ₹2.4-3.0 LPA and quotes you ₹2.4. Here is a script that works:

"Thank you, I am excited about the role. I noticed the posted range for this position is ₹2.4-3.0 LPA, and based on the scope we discussed, including the campaign work and the reporting, I would like to ask for ₹2.8 LPA. If the stipend is fixed, could we look at a review after three months, or a conversion clause if I join full-time?"

That script does three things. It names the posted range, so the ask is grounded in their own listing. It ties the number to scope. It gives them a fallback that costs them nothing today.

If they say no to the money, negotiate something else. Ask for a written conversion path, a named mentor, or a certificate and a referral. Those pay you later.

Use the free salary negotiation guide to script your own numbers before the call. Rehearse out loud once. Silence on the phone is worse than a slightly awkward sentence.

A short checklist before you accept#

  • Confirm the monthly in-hand stipend in writing, not just the LPA figure
  • Ask whether the role is internship or full-time, and what the job type on the listing means
  • Ask if the listing is from a staffing firm and who the end employer is
  • Get the working days, hours, and remote or hybrid policy in writing
  • Ask about conversion to full-time and the typical timeline
  • Check the city and whether relocation support exists
  • Keep applying elsewhere until the offer is signed

Country context#

Wider hiring in India is busier than the internship slice alone. The JobRise Hiring Report: India shows 1,867 open listings across all categories, with 1,345 posted in the last 30 days. Internships are 92 of that 1,867, so they are a small share of the whole feed. If your internship search stalls, entry-level and junior full-time roles are worth a parallel look.

FAQ#

How many internship listings are open in India right now?

As of the 14 October 2026 snapshot of the JobRise live jobs feed, there are 92 open listings in the India internships slice. 89 were posted in the last 30 days and 79 in the last 7 days, so the feed turns over quickly and you should recheck it weekly.

Why do so few internship listings show salary?

Only 2 of 92 listings in the snapshot show pay. Employers often keep the stipend flexible so they can adjust it to the candidate's experience and hours, which mostly benefits them. Ask for the monthly in-hand number early in the process.

What is a realistic internship stipend in India?

The two posted figures in the snapshot range from ₹0.6-1.2 LPA to ₹2.4-3.0 LPA for marketing internships, which is roughly ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 per month. These are just two data points and vary by city, role, and company, so verify against current listings and official sources before you rely on them.

Should I treat the stipend as CTC or as take-home?

Ask directly. Internships usually pay a plain monthly stipend without bonus, 13th month, or superannuation, while full-time offers often quote CTC, which includes employer contributions you never see in your account. Get the credited monthly figure in writing.

Can I negotiate an internship offer in India?

Yes, within limits. Ground the ask in the posted range and the role scope, give the employer a fallback such as a review after three months or a conversion clause, and negotiate non-money terms like remote days or a mentor if the stipend is fixed.
