Draft a quote, but set the prices yourself

Module 1: What AI already does in trades work

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. AI drafts a quote from your site notes. Which part do you always write yourself?

A quote (the price you offer before the job) has two parts: what you'll do, and what it costs. AI is quick at the first part. It has no idea about the second. It doesn't know your supplier, today's prices or your labor rate, so any number it writes is invented.

It also fills gaps with confident lines, like "no permit needed". Only your local rules decide that.

A worked example

Your site notes: replace a leaking 50-gallon gas water heater in the attic, old unit drained.

Before and after

Switch between the AI draft quote and the one the plumber sent.

AI draft

Supply and fit 40-gallon tank. Labor: 6 hours. No permit needed. Total: $1,450.

Four fixes: the size from the notes, the hours and rate from you, the permit line from local rules, and the total from your own sums.

Your turn

Fill the gaps

Fill each gap in your quote request (the message you type to the AI).

Quote request

Turn my notes into a quote with a materials list and labor lines. Leave every price as . Keep sizes and quantities . For permits, write .
