Cut the generic lines

Module 1: What AI already does in writing

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. Which line from an AI draft about a bakery's new owner should go?

A generic line is one that could appear in any piece on any topic. AI drafts often include them, because they're the safest thing to write when the tool doesn't know your story. Nothing in them is wrong. Nothing in them is yours.

The test is simple: could this sentence appear unchanged in a story about a different company? If yes, cut it, or replace it with a detail only your piece has.

A prompt that finds them for you

A prompt is the message you type into the tool.

Here is my draft: [paste].
List every sentence that could appear unchanged in an article
about a different company or topic.
For each one, ask me a question that would get a specific detail instead.
Don't rewrite anything.

The questions are the useful part. They point you back to your notes, where the specific detail usually is.

Fill the gaps

Fill the gaps so the tool finds the generic lines without writing new ones.
