Phones down while driving

Módulo 1: What AI already does on the road and at dispatch

Prueba rápida

Guess first, no penalty. You're driving and need to tell a customer you're late. When should you write the message with an AI app?

AI apps make it tempting to type, dictate or read on the move. The law in many places is clear about phones at the wheel. This isn't legal advice, so check your local rules and your company's policy. Here's what two official sources say:

  • US, commercial vehicles. Federal rules say: "No driver shall engage in texting while driving" (49 CFR 392.80), and "No driver shall use a hand-held mobile telephone while driving a CMV" (49 CFR 392.82). A CMV is a commercial motor vehicle.
  • UK, all drivers. The Highway Code says: "You MUST NOT use a hand-held mobile phone, or similar device, capable of interactive communication (such as a tablet) for any purpose when driving" (Rule 149).

In the Gulf and elsewhere, rules differ by country, so check yours.

A park-first routine

1. Something changes on the road: delay, closed dock, no one home.
2. Keep driving safely. Don't touch the phone.
3. At the next safe stop, park and switch off the engine if you can.
4. Dictate the facts in a voice note, or call dispatch.
5. Read any AI draft before it's sent.
