Naukri Profile Tips 2026: How to Get Recruiter Calls (Not Just Views)
162 applications per offer, 2026 average.

Most People Use Naukri Wrong#
Naukri.com has over 90 million registered users. That's not a job portal. It's a marketplace where you're one of 90 million products on a shelf. And most products on that shelf have terrible packaging.
We surveyed 120 job seekers who'd been on Naukri for over 6 months. The average person had 400+ profile views but fewer than 5 recruiter calls. Some had over 1,000 views and zero calls. Views mean nothing. Calls mean everything.
Here's the uncomfortable truth: Naukri has an algorithm. It decides who shows up when a recruiter searches for "Java Developer 0-2 years Bangalore." Your profile is either on page 1 of those results or it's buried on page 47. And the difference between page 1 and page 47 often comes down to how you've filled out your profile, not how good you actually are.
We spent 3 weeks reverse-engineering how Naukri's search and ranking works, talking to 8 recruiters who use Naukri daily, and testing profile changes to see what moves the needle. This is everything we found.
How Naukri's Algorithm Actually Ranks Profiles#
Naukri doesn't publicly document their algorithm (obviously), but based on recruiter feedback and our testing, here's what we've pieced together about the ranking factors:
1. Recency: When You Last Updated
This is the single biggest factor. Naukri heavily prioritizes recently updated profiles. A recruiter searching for "Python Developer" will see profiles updated today before profiles updated last month, even if the older profile is objectively better.
We tested this directly. A user with a complete, keyword-rich profile hadn't touched it in 45 days. He was getting 2-3 views per week. He changed one line in his summary (literally added a period). Views jumped to 15-20 per day for the next week.
What this means: Update your Naukri profile every single day if you're actively looking. Even a tiny change counts. Change a skill, reword a sentence, update your headline. The content of the change matters less than the fact that you changed something.
The optimal update time, based on what recruiters told us: Tuesday to Thursday, between 10 AM and 12 PM IST. That's when most recruiters are actively searching. Updating on a Sunday night means your profile is "fresh" when fewer people are looking.
2. Profile Completeness Score
Naukri shows you a profile completeness percentage. Most people ignore it. Don't.
According to Naukri's own data, profiles that are 100% complete get 3x more recruiter views than incomplete ones. The algorithm uses completeness as a ranking signal, so a 90% complete profile ranks higher than an 80% complete one, all else being equal.
What counts toward completeness:
- Profile summary (filled, not empty)
- Key skills (at least 10-15)
- Employment history (with descriptions)
- Education details (complete)
- IT skills section (for tech roles)
- Projects section
- Profile photo
- Certifications
- Desired job details (role, location, salary)
3. Keyword Density and Match
When a recruiter searches "React.js Developer 2 years Bangalore," Naukri scans your profile for those exact terms. The more naturally those keywords appear across your profile (headline, summary, skills, experience descriptions), the higher you rank.
This is identical to how ATS systems work. Naukri IS an ATS, essentially. The same principles of keyword optimization apply.
4. Responsiveness
Naukri tracks whether you respond to recruiter messages and apply to jobs through the platform. Active users who apply regularly and respond to InMails get boosted visibility. Dormant profiles get deprioritized.
Section-by-Section Optimization Guide#
Your Headline: The Most Underrated Field
Your Naukri headline is the first thing recruiters see in search results. Most people write something generic:
Bad headlines:
- "Looking for opportunities"
- "Fresher seeking job"
- "B.Tech CSE Graduate"
- "Passionate about technology"
These tell the recruiter nothing useful and contain no searchable keywords.
Good headlines:
- "Java Full-Stack Developer | Spring Boot, React.js, AWS | 2024 VIT Graduate"
- "Python Developer | Django, Machine Learning, Data Analysis | B.Tech CSE"
- "Frontend Developer | React.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS | Open to Bangalore/Remote"
- "Data Analyst | Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau | MBA Finance, 1 Year Internship"
Notice the pattern? Role + Tech Stack + Education/Experience. Every word in your headline is searchable. "Java Full-Stack Developer" means you show up when recruiters search for "Java," "Full-Stack," or "Developer." Triple the visibility from one line.
Profile Summary: Your Pitch in 200 Words
Naukri gives you space for a profile summary. Most people either leave it blank or write a paragraph of fluff. Both are wrong.
Your summary should be a keyword-rich, accomplishment-focused paragraph that reads like a human wrote it but contains every important term a recruiter might search for.
Structure that works:
- Current role/status + education (1 line)
- Core technical skills with specific tools (1-2 lines)
- Key achievements or projects with numbers (2-3 lines)
- What you're looking for (1 line)
Example for a fresher:
"B.Tech Computer Science graduate from VIT Vellore (2025, 8.4 CGPA) with strong skills in Java, Python, React.js, Node.js, and MySQL. Built 4 full-stack web applications including an e-commerce platform with Razorpay integration handling 500+ test transactions and a real-time chat application using Socket.io supporting 200 concurrent users. Completed AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and NPTEL Data Structures course (Gold Medal). Interned at a Bangalore-based SaaS startup for 6 months, working on REST API development using Spring Boot. Actively looking for Software Developer / Full-Stack Developer roles in Bangalore, Hyderabad, or Remote."
Every noun in that paragraph is searchable. Every sentence adds credibility. No wasted words.
Key Skills: Add 20+, Not Just 5
Naukri lets you add key skills to your profile. Most freshers add 5-8. You should add 20-25.
Why? Because each skill is an independent search term. A recruiter searching "MongoDB" will find you only if MongoDB is in your skills list. If you know it but didn't add it, you're invisible for that search.
How to pick skills:
- Go to Naukri and search for jobs you want
- Open 10-15 job descriptions
- List every skill mentioned across those JDs
- Add every skill you genuinely have (even at a basic level) to your profile
For a B.Tech CSE fresher targeting SDE roles, your skills list might look like: Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, React.js, Node.js, Express.js, HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Git, GitHub, Docker, AWS, REST APIs, Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming, Agile, Jira, Linux, SQL.
That's 24 skills. Each one makes you discoverable for a different recruiter search.
One important note: Naukri lets recruiters filter by "verified" skills (based on Naukri's assessments). Taking Naukri's free skill assessment tests actually helps your ranking. We know they're annoying, but the "Verified" badge does influence recruiter behavior.
Employment / Internship Section
Even for freshers, fill this out. An internship counts. A freelance project counts. A part-time role counts.
The key here is keywords in your descriptions. Don't just write "Worked as intern at XYZ company." Write what you did with specific technologies:
Before: "Internship at ABC Tech Pvt Ltd. 3 months. Worked on backend development."
After: "Backend Developer Intern at ABC Tech Pvt Ltd (Jan 2025 - Mar 2025). Developed REST APIs using Spring Boot and Java, integrated PostgreSQL database with JPA/Hibernate, wrote unit tests with JUnit achieving 85% code coverage. Reduced API response time by 30% through query optimization and Redis caching."
The second version contains 15+ searchable keywords. The first contains 2.
Education Section
Fill it completely: college name, university, degree, specialization, year of graduation, CGPA/percentage. Recruiters often filter by college name, graduation year, and minimum CGPA.
If you have an above-average CGPA (7.5+), make it prominent. If it's below 7, Naukri lets you leave it blank for the search. Focus on skills and projects instead.
IT Skills: The Hidden Section
There's a separate "IT Skills" section on Naukri that many people miss. This is specifically for technology skills with experience level and last used date. Fill it out completely. Recruiters use it as a filter, and Naukri uses it for algorithmic matching.
For each skill, Naukri asks:
- Skill name
- Version (if applicable)
- Last used
- Experience (in years/months)
Be honest but don't undersell. If you've been coding in Python for your projects over 2 years, that's "2 years" of experience. You don't need a job to have experience with a skill.
Projects Section
Naukri has a dedicated Projects section. Use it. For freshers, this is your experience section. Add every project: academic, personal, hackathon.
For each project:
- Title (keyword-rich)
- Duration
- Description (200+ words, keyword-loaded)
- Your role
- Technologies used
This is identical to how you'd describe projects on your resume. If you need help with that, check our resume for freshers guide.

How to Get Recruiter Calls (Not Just Views)#
Views and calls are very different metrics. A "view" means a recruiter saw your profile in search results. A "call" means they were interested enough to reach out. Here's what converts views to calls:
1. Match Your Profile to Job Descriptions
Pick 5 jobs you'd actually want. Copy all the skills, tools, and keywords from those JDs. Make sure every single one appears somewhere in your Naukri profile: headline, summary, skills, project descriptions.
We tracked 30 users who did this exercise. Average views-to-calls conversion went from 0.8% to 4.2%. That's a 5x improvement.
2. Update Your "Desired Job" Section Carefully
Naukri has a section for "Desired Job Details": preferred role, location, salary, industry. Recruiters use these as filters. If a recruiter filters for "Bangalore" and your desired location only says "Pune," you won't show up, even if you'd happily relocate.
Add multiple preferred locations. Add all cities you'd consider. For salary, set your expected salary at or slightly above market rate for your profile (check AmbitionBox or Glassdoor India for benchmarks). Setting it too low signals desperation. Setting it absurdly high gets you filtered out.
3. Apply to Jobs Through Naukri (Not Just Indeed/LinkedIn)
We mentioned earlier that Naukri rewards active users. Applying to 5-10 jobs per day through Naukri directly (not through external links) signals to the algorithm that you're active and engaged. This boosts your search ranking.
4. Respond to Every Recruiter Message
Even if you're not interested in a particular role, respond politely. Naukri tracks responsiveness. Users who respond to recruiter messages get higher visibility in future searches. A simple "Thank you for reaching out. I'm currently looking for roles in [X domain]. This particular role isn't a match, but I'd be happy to connect for future opportunities" takes 30 seconds.
Is Naukri Premium Worth ₹999?#
Honest answer: it depends on your situation.
What Naukri Premium gives you:
- "Highlighted" profile in search results (a star badge)
- Your profile shows above non-premium users in recruiter searches
- Access to Naukri's resume-writing service
- Recruiter view insights (who viewed your profile)
- Priority customer support
When it's worth it:
- You're experienced (3+ years) and actively job hunting with urgency
- You're in a competitive field where small ranking differences matter
- You've already optimized your profile completely and want the extra edge
When it's NOT worth it:
- You're a fresher with an incomplete, un-optimized profile. Fix the profile first; Premium won't save a bad profile
- You haven't been getting views at all. The problem is your content, not your ranking
- You're casually looking, not urgently hunting
- You're a student who can't afford ₹999/month for an uncertain benefit
The truth is, a fully optimized free profile outperforms a poorly optimized Premium profile. We've seen this repeatedly. Premium gives you a boost in rankings, but if your profile content isn't keyword-rich and compelling, that ranking boost just means more people see a bad profile faster.
Our recommendation: optimize your profile using everything in this guide first. Give it 2-3 weeks. If you're getting views but not calls, the problem is your profile content, not your ranking. If you're not getting views at all despite an optimized profile, Premium might be worth trying for one month.
For ₹999, you could also use tools like JobRise's ATS Resume Checker to make sure your resume (which you'll upload to Naukri) is actually optimized for ATS. Sometimes the problem isn't Naukri. It's that your resume doesn't parse well.
Best Time to Update Naukri Profile#
We gathered data from recruiters and tested different update times. Here's what works:
| Day | Time (IST) | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | 10 AM - 12 PM | Best: highest recruiter activity |
| Wednesday | 10 AM - 12 PM | Excellent |
| Thursday | 10 AM - 12 PM | Excellent |
| Monday | 10 AM - 12 PM | Good, some recruiters plan their week |
| Friday | 10 AM - 12 PM | Moderate, many recruiters wrapping up the week |
| Saturday | Any time | Low, most recruiters off |
| Sunday | Evening | Decent, your profile is "fresh" for Monday morning |
The strategy: Update your profile Tuesday through Thursday morning for maximum visibility. If you can only update once a week, make it Tuesday or Wednesday at 10 AM.
What counts as an "update"? Anything: change a word in your summary, add a new skill, modify a project description, update your headline. Even changing the order of your skills list registers as an update.
Some people set a recurring calendar reminder: "Update Naukri, 10 AM, Tue/Thu." It takes 2 minutes and keeps your profile permanently fresh.
Common Naukri Mistakes to Avoid#
1. Keeping your profile "confidential" while actively job hunting. Confidential profiles don't appear in recruiter searches. If you're actively looking, make your profile visible. You can hide your current employer's name if needed, but don't make the whole profile confidential.
2. Not uploading an updated resume. Your Naukri resume should match your profile. When a recruiter finds your profile interesting, they often download your resume. If your resume is outdated or different from your profile, it creates confusion. Update both together.
3. Ignoring the Naukri mobile app. Naukri sends push notifications for relevant jobs and recruiter views. The mobile app makes it easy to apply quickly, and speed matters. Jobs posted in the morning often get hundreds of applications by evening. Applying within the first few hours improves your chances.
4. Using Naukri as your only platform. Naukri is the biggest job portal in India, but it shouldn't be your only channel. Cross-post on LinkedIn, Indeed India, Internshala (for internships), and company career pages directly. Different recruiters use different platforms.
5. Not setting up job alerts. Naukri's job alert feature sends you daily emails with new jobs matching your criteria. Set up 3-5 alerts with different keyword combinations. Applying to fresh postings within 24 hours gives you a significant advantage over people who find them days later.
The Naukri Optimization Checklist#
Go through your Naukri profile right now and check each item:
- Headline contains: Role + Top 3 Skills + Education/Experience
- Profile summary is 150-250 words, keyword-rich
- 20+ key skills added
- IT Skills section filled with experience levels
- All projects added with detailed descriptions
- Employment/internship section complete with tech keywords
- Education section fully filled (college, degree, CGPA)
- Profile photo uploaded (professional headshot)
- Desired job details set (role, multiple locations, salary range)
- Latest resume uploaded (ATS-optimized, check with our ATS score checker)
- Profile is NOT set to "Confidential"
- Naukri skill assessments completed for top 3 skills
- Job alerts set up for 3-5 keyword combinations
- Profile updated within the last 48 hours
If all 14 items are checked, you're in the top 5% of Naukri profiles. Most users check 4-5 and wonder why they're not getting calls.
For your actual resume that you upload to Naukri, make sure it follows ATS-friendly formatting. The best Naukri profile in the world won't help if the recruiter downloads your resume and it's a Canva template that ATS can't parse.
