Software Engineer Jobs in Pune 2026

Job SearchJobRise Team7 min read

Your job alert for Pune shows hundreds of software engineer postings, and you cannot tell which ones are real, which ones are stale, and which ones are worth the interview grind. Pune's market is active but noisy. Sorting it properly is the whole job before you even write a resume.

Where the hiring actually sits#

Pune's tech employment is concentrated in a few corridors, and knowing the geography saves you time.

Hinjewadi (Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park) is the biggest cluster. It hosts large IT services campuses, product captives, and a long tail of mid-size firms. Magarpatta and Kharadi follow, with Kharadi growing fast as a product and startup hub. Then there is Baner, Balewadi, Viman Nagar, and Yerwada, which hold smaller offices and many remote-first teams. Talegaon and Chakan are more manufacturing and automotive engineering, but embedded and IoT software roles do come up there.

The employers fall into four buckets:

  • IT services and consultancies: TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Persistent, Zensar, Cybage. High volume, steady hiring, structured processes.
  • Product companies and captives: Cummins, Sandisk (formerly Western Digital), Symantec, Veritas, Mastercard, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, and various automotive and industrial captives. Slower, harder to break into, better long-term pay.
  • Mid-size product and SaaS firms: Druva, MindTickle, Xoriant, PubMatic, Quickheal, and a growing set of B2B SaaS companies. This is where many of the good Bangalore-style roles now sit in Pune.
  • Startups and GCCs: smaller counts per company, but they post frequently and move faster.

Where the postings show up#

LinkedIn and Naukri carry the bulk of Pune listings. Company career pages matter more than people expect, because services firms post there first and only syndicate later. Instahyre, Cutshort, and Wellfound are where the startup and product roles live. Local referral groups on WhatsApp and Telegram still move a surprising share of mid-level hires.

Two practical points. First, reposted listings are common, so check the posting date and the recruiter's activity before you invest an hour in a custom application. Second, run your resume through a free ATS checker before you submit anywhere, because several large Pune employers use strict parsers that drop resumes with tables, columns, or text in headers. You can check yours at /en/free-ats-checker/.

If a job description is vague about stack or seniority, decode it before applying. A free JD decoder helps you see what the team actually needs versus what the recruiter pasted from a template.

How the hiring process usually runs#

For services companies, expect an online aptitude or coding test, one or two technical rounds, and an HR round. Timelines are fast, sometimes under two weeks, but the offer letter can lag by a month. For product companies, expect a take-home or live coding round, a system design round for senior roles, and a hiring manager round. Four to six weeks is normal.

A few norms worth knowing. Notice period is a real filter in Pune. Many services firms prefer candidates on 30 days or already serving notice, and 90-day notice periods get screened out more often than recruiters admit. Referrals move applications faster than cold applies at almost every employer listed above. And yes, the aptitude round is still real at several large firms. Do not skip the practice.

Salary discussions usually start at the HR stage, not before. Have your current CTC and expected number ready, and be consistent.

Salary ranges, with the usual caveat#

For software engineers with 2 to 5 years of experience, total CTC in Pune commonly falls in the range of roughly 6 to 18 lakhs per year, depending on company type, stack, and negotiation. Product companies and GCCs sit at the higher end. Services firms sit lower but hire in much larger batches. Senior and staff-level roles can go well above that, especially in cloud, data, and security.

These are rough reported ranges, not offers. They vary a lot by company, by year, and by individual. Verify current numbers on official company career pages, current offer letters, or the latest salary reports from the companies themselves before you plan around them.

Relocation notes if you are moving to Pune#

Rent is the biggest line item. A 1BHK near Hinjewadi or Kharadi typically runs higher than the same flat in Kothrud or Hadapsar, and closer to the office means less of the commute pain that Pune is known for. Budget for a deposit of two to three months' rent and confirm the brokerage terms before you sign anything.

Traffic matters more here than in most Indian cities. A 10 km commute in the Hinjewadi corridor can take 45 minutes at peak. Try to live on the same side of the river as your office. Metro lines are expanding but do not yet cover every tech park, so check the current routes on the official Pune Metro site rather than old blog posts.

If you are relocating from another state, ask HR directly about relocation support, temporary accommodation, and whether the offer includes a joining bonus to cover setup costs. Get all of it in writing. Verbal promises about relocation reimbursement disappear often enough that it is worth the awkward question.

The 7-step plan#

  1. Shortlist 20 to 30 target companies across the four employer buckets. Write them down by corridor, because geography shapes your life more than the job title does.
  2. Tailor one base resume per bucket, not per company. Services, product, and startup resumes should read differently.
  3. Fix your resume format first. Run it through the ATS tool linked above and fix anything that breaks parsing.
  4. Apply through three channels at once: direct career pages, job boards, and referrals. Track everything in a simple spreadsheet with date, role, contact, and status.
  5. Prepare for the two rounds that filter most people: coding and system design. Do 30 to 50 targeted problems on your actual stack, not random algorithms.
  6. Practice your salary script out loud. Know your current CTC, your expected number, and your walk-away point before the first HR call.
  7. Follow up once, seven days after applying, with a short note referencing the exact role. Then move on to the next application.

The market rewards volume with discipline. Spraying 200 identical applications feels productive and mostly is not. Ten tailored applications with referrals beat it every time.

FAQ#

How many software engineer openings are there in Pune in 2026?

The count shifts weekly and depends heavily on how you filter by experience, stack, and company type. Rather than chasing a headline number, build a live list from job boards, company pages, and the current listings on /en/jobs/ and update it every week.

Do Pune companies hire candidates from outside India or from other Indian cities?

Yes, cross-city hiring is common and most large employers handle relocation, though support varies from a flat stipend to full reimbursement. Ask about the exact policy before you accept, and confirm it in the offer letter.

Which tech stacks are most in demand in Pune right now?

Java, Python, cloud (AWS and Azure), data engineering, and full-stack JavaScript appear most often in the corridors listed above. Embedded and IoT skills are more concentrated in the Chakan and Talegaon areas.

How long does the software engineer hiring process take in Pune?

Services firms can move from test to offer in two to four weeks, while product companies often run four to six weeks with multiple rounds. Offer letter release can add another two to four weeks on top of that.
