Software Jobs in Canada: Who's Hiring Right Now (Oct 2026)
You want a software job in Canada and you need to know who is actually posting roles this week, not vague talk about the market. Here is a dated snapshot of who is hiring, what they are hiring for, and what to do about it in the next seven days.
All numbers below come from the JobRise live jobs feed as of 14 October 2026. They are counts of open listings, not a market survey, and they change daily as roles get filled or pulled.
The snapshot in one look#
There are 319 open software listings in Canada on the software jobs hub. Of those, 227 were posted in the last 30 days and 105 in the last 7 days.
That ratio matters. Roughly two thirds of the market is fresh, which means employers are hiring now, not collecting resumes for later.
For broader context, the JobRise Hiring Report for Canada shows 1,255 open listings across all categories, with 880 posted in the last 30 days. Software is a large slice of that.

Who is hiring right now#
Ten employers account for a big share of the open roles. Some are product companies, some are recruiters or staffing firms, so read the listing carefully before you apply.
- Ubisoft (45 open listings), including "Lead technique jouabilité (For Honor)"
- Okta (35)
- Lyft (27)
- Elastic (22)
- Google (18)
- Robinhood (16), including "Senior Software Engineer, International"
- Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada (14)
- Brex (14)
- Cohere (13), including "Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Cohere Dashboard"
- Faire (13)
Beyond the top ten, other named roles in the feed include "Software Developer, Mobile Platform" at MaintainX, "Junior Software Engineer" at PolicyMe, "Technical Support Specialist T3" at Boldr, "Analyste en automatisation AQ / QA Automation Analyst" at Keywords Studios, and "Group Leader, Applications Engineer - Industrial Hydraulics" at Bosch Group.
Where the jobs are#
- Toronto: 119
- Montreal: 62
- Vancouver: 30
- Kitchener-Waterloo: 11
- Ottawa: 6
Toronto and Montreal hold more than half the listings between them. If you are bilingual, Montreal is worth a serious look, especially for the Ubisoft and Keywords Studios style roles that ask for French.
What the job-type mix says#
Full-time roles are 316 of the 319 listings. Contract is 3.
That is about as lopsided as a market gets. Employers want permanent headcount right now, which usually signals confidence in long-term product work rather than short-term project sprints.
The mix also tells you where the demand sits. Big tech is present through Google, Okta, Lyft, Elastic, Robinhood, and Brex. Startups and scale-ups show up through Cohere, Faire, PolicyMe, and MaintainX. Agencies and outsourcing appear through Keywords Studios and Boldr. The public sector is there too, with Export Development Canada and Norfolk County in the feed.
The salary picture is thin#
Only 13 of the 319 listings show pay at all. Most of those are Cohere roles, quoted here exactly as posted:
- Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Cohere Dashboard: CA$230K, CA$295K • Offers Equity • Multiple Ranges
- Software Engineer, Security: $180K, $325K • Offers Equity • Multiple Ranges
- Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Internal Applications: CA$215K, CA$295K • Offers Equity
- Product Security Engineer, North Security: CA$230K, CA$330K • Offers Equity • Multiple Ranges
- Senior Security Engineer: CA$260K, CA$310K • Offers Equity • Multiple Ranges
- Senior Software Engineer, GPU Infrastructure (HPC): CA$285K, CA$340K • Offers Equity • Multiple Ranges
Treat these as one employer's posted ranges, not a national benchmark. For everything else, you will have to ask. Verify current pay ranges on the official Government of Canada Job Bank before you negotiate.
Entry-level roles are scarce#
Four of the 319 listings carry intern, graduate, junior, or trainee style titles. They are "Junior Software Engineer" at PolicyMe, "JR Municipal Technologist or SR Municipal Technologist (PFT)(CUPE 56.26) repost" at Norfolk County, "Junior IT Desktop Support Specialist" at Entuitive, and "Software Engineer, New Grad" at Stripe.
If you are early career, the honest read is that this is a senior-weighted market. Widen your search to adjacent titles like QA automation, support engineering, and technologist roles, and be ready to move fast when a junior posting appears.
How to apply this week#
Apply direct wherever you can. If a role is posted by a staffing firm, find out who the end client is before you invest hours in a custom application.
Mirror the listing's own keywords in your resume. If the posting says "Full-Stack Engineer, Internal Applications", use that exact phrase in your summary or skills line if it describes your work. A quick pass with the free ATS checker will show you whether your resume actually contains the terms the posting asks for.
Here is a rewritten bullet example. Before: "Worked on the dashboard team." After: "Built and shipped features for the Cohere Dashboard as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, owning React components, API contracts, and release checks used by internal customers." Same job, the second version carries the titles and nouns a screening tool looks for.
A 7-step plan#
- Pull the top ten employers above and open their career pages today. Okta, Lyft, Elastic, Google, Robinhood, Brex, Cohere, and Faire all post on their own sites.
- Pick two cities to focus on. Toronto and Montreal give you 181 of the 319 listings combined.
- Filter to full-time unless you specifically want contract. Only 3 contract listings exist in this slice.
- Rewrite your resume bullets using the exact titles and skills from the three postings you most want.
- Run each tailored resume through the free ATS checker before you submit.
- Apply direct on employer sites first, then on job boards. Track the date, the exact job title, and where you applied.
- Follow up five business days after applying with a short note restating the role title and one specific thing you would fix or build in the first month.

FAQ#
How current are these numbers?
They are a snapshot of open listings on the JobRise live jobs feed dated 14 October 2026. Listings change daily, so check the site before you rely on any single count.
Are these all direct employer postings?
No. Some of the top employers in this feed are recruiters or staffing firms. Read each listing to see who the end client is before you invest time in a tailored application.
Where should an entry-level developer look?
Only 4 of 319 listings are junior, intern, graduate, or trainee titles in this snapshot. Widen to QA automation, support engineering, and technologist roles, and apply within days of a posting going live.
Should I expect a salary range in the posting?
Probably not. Only 13 of 319 listings showed pay in this snapshot, and most were from one employer. Verify current ranges on the official Government of Canada Job Bank and ask the recruiter directly.
Is contract work a realistic option right now?
Contract is only 3 of the 319 listings in this slice, so it is a small door. If you need contract income, widen the search beyond software titles and check back weekly.
