What AI means for your design career

Module 1: What AI already does in your job

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. The World Economic Forum asked over 1,000 employers about jobs to 2030. Where did design jobs land?

In the Future of Jobs Report 2025, employers list UI and UX Designers (who design how apps and sites work) among the fastest-growing jobs, and Graphic Designers among the fastest declining. That's what employers expect, not a count, and it reflects many trends, not AI alone.

Designers say clients now hold up AI output and ask why the work costs so much. The answer is the part AI doesn't do: framing the problem, choosing, checking and defending the choice. That's also what the growing roles ask for.

So show it. A case study (a short write-up of one project) that shows the AI options, what you chose and why, and the checks you ran, proves judgment in a way a folder of images can't.
