Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. A cover letter is a short letter you send when you apply for a job. Which part is missing from this message to the AI: "Write a cover letter for a nursing assistant job. Keep it under 150 words."

A prompt is the message you send to an AI. In this lesson you read a full one, fill in gaps, then write your own.

Step 1: read a full prompt

This one asks a head teacher for a reference letter, which is a letter saying you did good work. Task, context and format, one line each:

Write a polite email to my head teacher asking for a reference letter.
I have taught Class 3 at her school for 2 years. I'm applying to another school, and the deadline is 20 June.
Under 80 words. Friendly and respectful.

Step 2: fill one gap

Fill the gaps

Fill the context gap:

Prompt

Write a polite message to my landlord asking to pay this month's rent 5 days late. Under 60 words.

Step 3: fill two gaps

Fill the gaps

Now the context and the format are missing:

Prompt

Write a message to a shop owner asking if they need staff.

Step 4: write your own

Copy this and fill in the brackets for one real task:

Task: [what you want, starting with write, explain, fix or list]
Context: [who you are, what happened, who will read it]
Format: [how long, how many points, which language]
