Choose the standard yourself

Module 3: The judgment calls and your portfolio piece

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. You ask AI which design standard applies to a made-up pump station. What do you do with the answer?

Your project names the standard, not the tool

A standard is a published set of rules for a type of work. An edition is one version of that standard, with its own date. Your contract, your specification or your local rules say which standard and which edition apply.

AI tools often mix up editions, invent clause numbers and name standards from other countries. They can sound certain about all three.

A worked example

A prompt is the message you type to the AI. This one makes the tool point at your document, not its memory:

Here is the design section of our project specification, pasted below.
Which standard does it name, and which edition? Quote the sentence that says so.
If the text doesn't name a standard, write "not named in this text".
Don't use your memory of standards.

Your turn

Fill the gaps

Fill each gap in the same prompt.
