Put your matching bullets first

Module 1: Resume and ATS keywords

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. A recruiter (the person who screens applicants) skims your resume (the document that lists your work). Which bullets under each job do they most likely read?

Recruiters skimming a page tend to read the top of each job entry first. So put your best matches there:

  1. Take the job ad and list the 5 to 8 skills it repeats.
  2. Reorder your bullets so the ones that match sit at the top.
  3. Use the ad's own word when it matches your real work. For example, write "customer onboarding" if that is what you did.

Here's one job entry, before and after, for an ad that repeats "customer onboarding" and "SQL":

Before and after

Switch to see the same true bullets in a new order.

Before

Answered about 60 customer emails a day Trained 4 new team members on the ticketing system Wrote SQL queries to pull weekly ticket reports Set up accounts and ran first calls for new customers

Nothing new was added. The onboarding bullet now uses the ad's word because that is what the work was.

Fill the gaps

Fill the gaps in the plan for one job entry.

Plan
