Tailor with a no-invention prompt

Module 1: Resume and ATS keywords

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. You ask AI to tailor your master resume (your private list of every real fact about your work) to fit one job post. Which rule in your prompt (the message you send the tool) matters most?

Here is a tailoring prompt with no-invention rules:

Below is my master resume, then a job post. Pick the 6 to 8 bullets
from my master resume that best match this job, most important first.

Rules:
- Use only facts in my master resume. Don't add numbers, tools or results.
- Keep my wording. Change a word only to use the job post's term for
something I really did, and list every change you made.
- Don't use: spearheaded, orchestrated, championed, results-driven,
  proven track record.
- Vary bullet length. Not every bullet needs a number.
- If the job asks for something my master resume doesn't show, list it
as a gap. Don't fill it.

Master resume:
[paste]

Job post:
[paste]

The last rule matters most. A gap list tells you what to cover in a cover letter (the short letter you send with your resume) or an interview, while a filled gap is a claim you can't back up.

When the answer comes back, read the gap list and every change the AI made. Undo any change that isn't true.

Fill the gaps

Fill the gaps in the tailoring rules.

Prompt

- Change a word only to use the job post's term for something I , and . - If the job asks for something my master resume doesn't show, .
