Show up when recruiters search

Module 1: Resume and ATS keywords

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. A recruiter (the person who screens applicants) searches the ATS (the software that stores applications) for "customer success". Your resume (the document that lists your work) never uses that phrase. What happens?

Recruiters search and filter by job title, skill keywords, location and years of experience. If the parsed text of your resume (the text the ATS pulled from your file) does not contain those words, you simply do not appear in the results.

Use the words in the job ad

Recruiters search with the words in the job ad. The next lesson shows you how to pull those words out of a job post.

If the ad says "customer success" and your title was "Client Relationship Lead", put the phrase "customer success" in your summary or skills list, as long as it describes your work. Don't invent experience you don't have.
