Quick check
Guess first, no penalty. You apply online and never hear back. What most often stops a resume (the document that lists your work and skills)?
Here is the path your application takes:

What happens after you apply.
Step 1 of 4: The ATS parses your file
Step 1 of 4
The ATS parses your file
It splits your resume into fields: name, email, phone, job titles, employers, dates, education and skills.
The 75% claim
You have probably read that "75% of resumes are rejected by an ATS before a human sees them." We could not find any published data behind that number, so do not build your strategy around it.
In practice, rejections come from three places: knockout questions, recruiters skimming long lists, and the sheer volume of applicants. You cannot control volume. You can control the other two: answer screening questions carefully, and make the right words easy to find in a quick skim.
