Name the reader, and say what to avoid

Module 1: Prompting that works

Course outline

Quick check

Guess first, no penalty. One line in your message to the AI can change the tone of the whole answer. Which one?

A prompt is the message you send to an AI. The model (the AI behind the chat tool) writes for a reader it imagines. Tell it who really reads the output: a new hire in week one, an angry customer, a finance director, a store manager reading on a phone during a shift. One line about the reader changes the tone of the whole answer.

Then add an Avoid line. Tell the model what not to do: no jargon (work words outsiders don't know), no blame, no more than 200 words, don't invent numbers, don't cover IT setup. On its own line, it's easy for the model to spot and easy for you to change later.
