Guess first, no penalty. AI wrote a blog post for your company. Can you present it as original work?
In the US, the Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI without human creative control cannot be registered. Your own edits, selection and arrangement can be.
AI output can also closely echo existing text without telling you. So do not present it as original work where originality matters, such as a published article, a book chapter, a marketing campaign or a portfolio piece.
Two practical rules follow from this:
- Add real creative work of your own: restructure, rewrite, choose and edit.
- Run originality checks on anything that will be published under your name or your company's name.
