Quick check
Guess first, no penalty. A hiring manager at a hotel or restaurant asks, "How do you use AI at work?" What convinces them most?
Your portfolio piece is one piece of work you can show. It doesn't need a real guest or a real hotel. This one uses a made-up brief for Harbour Inn, a made-up hotel with a restaurant called The Larkspur.
You'll draft with AI, then check everything, the way you would on a real shift.
Your made-up brief
Harbour Inn, Monday 19 Oct, 16:00 (all names and details are made up).
Front desk: a wedding group of 24 for lunch on Friday 23 Oct at 12:30 in The Larkspur. Two guests are vegetarian. Contact: Maya Lopez.
Review on a review site: "The room was dusty and the shower was slow." Housekeeping confirmed the room was cleaned twice. The shower complaint is not confirmed.
A guest reported bar noise until 1 am and asked for a refund of one night. Not decided. Manager: Sam.
Handover: pool towels short, order placed, owner not named. A guest asked for a late checkout, and needs an answer by tomorrow.
Menu: the new lamb special has mint and carrots. The recipe card lists no allergens yet.
Your four parts
Make each part from this brief. Use AI for the first draft, then check it against the brief.
- Shift handover: every open task, with an owner and a time, and nothing added.
- Review reply: calm, short, and only confirmed facts. No promise about the shower.
- Booking list: date, guests, time, dietary needs and contact, with anything unclear marked.
- Note for Sam: the refund request in time order, marked as his decision.
